When the person that you have loved for 13 years (your soul mate) dies of cancer before you get a chance to see him one last time. Because of circumstances, the two of you are no longer together and have both moved on with your lives......only to remain best friends and lovers. Neither of you want to hurt the other people involved and so it remains a secret for 8 years.
You are aware of the cancer and the two of you have cried and cried over what is inevitable but you both leave each encounter, promising that there will always be 'one more time'.
And then months and months go by without a word from him. You know in your heart there is something wrong but you are not in a situation to really do anything about it. You just wait and wonder. And you wait some more.
When 'one more time' never comes, and you finally drum up enough courage to actually go to his house to check on him.......she tells you that he had passed away three months prior.
That, my friend, is waiting too long.
