Is it to preside and rule over a country, or to lead a country?

I see too many politicians who take option A, not listening to the people, just laying down new laws for them.

I see too many politicians playing a popularity contest with their opponents, when all their policies should be the same if they are for the same people.

Why vote for a party that only has half of what we want to see?

The answer is: Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Modern day governments do not care about the citizens on an individual level. They care only on a global status. The USA constantly makes decisions that only benefit 2% of the population. At a national level the government doesn't give two shits what the citizens want or think. However, on a local level citizens have an opportunity to shift viewpoints. It's important to be active in your local politics because once you start controlling city, county, and state you can elect qualified officials to handle at the national level.

It is to govern a country effectively and fairly and to ensure uniformity of human rights for all its citizens. The goverment is elected on a 'sort of majority' and it has the responsibility to make the most appropriate decisions which often are disliked by the populace. Unfortunately, the major parties are trying to win the middle ground and this results in similar proposals from the opposing parties. It is a bit like modern family car manufacturers who all seem to come out with a similar body design.

It's all written in the Preamble to the Constitution:

We the people,
In order to form a more perfect union,
Establish justice, insure domestic tranquility,
Provide for the common defense,
Promote the general welfare and
Secure the blessings of liberty
To ourselves and our posterity
Do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

A good government has to put the people first and decide whats best for the people. If we live in a society that is so corupted then we are only doomed for faliure. We should show honesty in the world so the governmnet itself is better.

As far as the UK is concerned, the first and foremost priority of any Government is the defence of the Realm.

That is, of course, unless you are a New Labour Government then it is to try and get rid of the UK in way you can and hand all the powers to the unelected, undemocratic European Union.
