Usually that means that you are missing the driver needed to operate your sound card. If the card came with the computer, go to the web site of the computer's manufacturer, and they should have the driver available as a free download.

Go to the control pannel on the desktop and make sure the audio is all the way up. Or are the speakers plugged in?

if you've done all the obvious things, like re-boot, check the volume etc. you may need to re-install the sound card driver.


don't ask me how to do that because I don't know.
