if everything goes ok you can shower almost right after birth..after birth you have your recovery and the babies..they watch you and the baby..check your vitals and make sure your bleeding is okay..after your recovered they may move you to a smaller room (depending on the hospital) and you get to enjoy your lil one..they will also do ALOT of teaching with you and just go over information..the baby will have its bath..hearing checked, pku pictures all that fun stuff..but it really depends on how your labor goes how things will go afterwards..good luck..

After labor, the first thing to expect is the "clean-up." They unhooked me from the fetal monitors and all that kind of stuff. Then they helped me get to the bathroom and they will let me shower and get cleaned up. You can tell them you don't (or do) want visitors until after that. I think I was able to shower after just an hour or so (and I did have an epidural). I even got to put on a little bit of mascara and chapstick. It just made me feel better because I felt (and looked) like I had just been in a boxing ring.
You will learn how and about breastfeeding. Since I had a son, the circumcision also took place during my stay at the hospital. After getting cleaned up, you will probably be allowed to eat too! I was really happy about that! Mostly, the hospital is time for you to rest. Good luck and congrats mama!

As long as there are no complications you should be allowed to have a shower any time after. If you have an epidural, you'll have to wait until that fully wears off. Even DURING labor, unless otherwise dictated by your doctor, you can shower. It helps you relax.
I wasn't able to shower right away because I had to have two doses of penicillin (strep and my water broke really early, but I didn't start contracting) and two IV pitocin drips because of the water breaking 24 hours in advance and no contractions, along with a saline drip because of the long time between my water breaking and time admitted to the hospital.
Other than that, they usually have TVs in the room, so you can watch TV. My birthing room and recovery room had DVD players too. Or you can read, or take your baby for a walk through the ward... Lots of stuff to do while you're there. Plus you'll be exhausted, so there will be a lot of sleeping.

They waited till he was taken to the nursery and they fed me since I was in labor 17 1/2 hours and I was a bit hungry LOL It did not hurt at all to shower in fact it felt so good I stay in there as long as I could tolorate standing LOL Good Luck, may you have a quick and easy labor with a healthy baby at the end!!!

I showered about 30-45 minutes after having my son (while he was getting tests run on him that they didn't want me to see, blood tests and things they thought would upset me) before I even left the delivery room. The nurses made my husband stay with me and help me. It did hurt when I showered, but I had a pretty bad episiotomy. Hopefully, you'll get lucky as far as that is concerned. I had a natural labor and delivery. If you get meds, you'll probably have to wait until they wear off to shower. As far as what happens besides labor, you'll get bonding time with baby as will your visitors if you decide to have them. You'll also have to fill out lots of paper work before leaving. Other than that it's pretty much just labor, delivery, and a day or two of recovery. Hope everything goes well for you! Good luck and Congratulations!!
p.s. Take lots of pictures!! You are about to experience one of the greatest joys in life. You'll want plenty to remember it by.

i got a shower right after birth. If you tear and they hav e to stitch you dont sit down it will be hard. Also take a shower with the water hitting your back. Your breast will be sore and if the water ihits them it will hurt..Lets see what else goes on. Where i am from in Kentucky they bring the baby after he is born. They clean him up give a bath bring him back. They let you keep your child as long as you want. They will take hospital pictures. They will give you paperwork on how to feed the baby and so on. I got free diapers and baby food when i left also a baby bag. You get to keep everything that they put on him. His shirt hat. his tag.Just dont be nervous. This was my first and i had him in 20 mins. To be honest it felt like i was taking a big ol poop and it wouldnt come out. Get lots of rest while you are in the hospital.

If you have a c-section, you'll have to wait about 12-24 hours.
If you have a natural birth, you can bathe soon after if you didn't have an epidural. Will it hurt? You may be a little tender, more tender if you had a tear.
Basically--you probably won't be too worried about that. You'll be too amazed at the new life you just brought into this world!

If you have a vaginal birth, you can shower as soon as they put you in your room, as long as you feel up to it. One time I just wanted my shower so bad that I was ready as soon as I got settled and other times I was so tired I had to take a nap and took one later in the day. Just make sure you've got someone to watch the baby while you are in the shower or send him/her to the well baby nursery because even newborns can be unwilling when you want to take a shower.

For me, everyone was SO nice and excited! All of my family and friends came parading through the next day, and I was able to shower that evening. Be prepared though. Your body is going to be so different during that first shower! (all soft and mushy and well, just different) Good luck! I wish I could trade places with you right now!
I'm 12 weeks and chugging along... ugh...
Good luck!

You can take a shower pretty much as soon as you feel up to it. As to it hurting, if you're talking about labor, YES it hurts!!! :) But, they do have epidurals.... :) But does it hurt to take a shower after birth? no, I think it's soothing. siiiigh, I'm getting in the mood for a long hot soak in the tub... :) hehe
Congratulations, and God bless, on your new addition. I hope everything goes smooth and fast for you.
