Part of it was self preservation. No slave wanted to go on the auction block. He/she would be separated from family for the rest of their lives. So, even back then there was a reason for " sucking up". I doubt field slaves truly loved their masters but they didn't want to go to an unknown place either.

House slaves did have loyalty. They were assigned to a specific house detail... cook, house servant, child guardian... and they ate the same good food and had a nice roof over their heads.

Racism, on any point, to any human beings, in any area of the international maintains to be a debatable difficulty for some. Yawn. yet there is not something debatable approximately it in any respect to the only that is is enslaved. Abe Lincoln as quickly as reported, the only people who're for slavery are loose adult adult males. ok... i'm unable to withstand including this, the Republican celebration replaced into based and started as an abolitionist celebration against slavery and ran Abe Lincoln as their first presidential candidate.. meanwhile Democrats antagonistic civil rights law, enamel and nail. yet many (in all likelihood trustworthy to assert maximum) Black human beings mechanically vote a without put off democratic value tag. pass determine. curiously, being supportive of a victimization physique of ideas nevertheless works. it extremely is how unfavorable slavery is to a human beings's psche.

Because if they couldn't be free, at least they could have some sort of prestige among the other slaves. Just like in modern times. Working for a broking firm is more prestigious than manual labor, and it can also effect the status of your pay.

Why not? There were some masters who were very concerned about their slaves and the slaves felt a connection other than simple slave. There were also slaves who believed that a wealthy master gave them prestiege over other slaves. Slaves were people too!!

I've never heard that before but I would imagine in that situation you would want to be proud of all the hard work you were doing every day, even if it was forced. It was important to keep a positive attitude.

Because it was one of the few ways they could feel smug - same as a young boy bragging about his big brother's hot car. If I belong to a person who's twice as rich as the person you belong to, I'll rub it in your face.
Slaves had the same personalities as people today.
