I prefer a man who will burn the flag and then wrap himself in the Constitution to a man who will burn the Constitution and then wrap himself in the flag.
The joke is that the flag is desecrated daily for commercial purposes, waving proudly in front of the corporate headquarters of war profiteers like Haliburton, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Bechtel, GE, Westinghouse and Exxon Mobil, the homes of tax cheats like disgraced Tyco CEO Dennis Kozlowski, and the stuck to the lapels of many in Washington as they bow to special interests. It decorates all manner of commercial products from the backsides of women’s shorts to a line of patriotic condoms to toilet paper (so, you can't burn it but you can wipe your butt with it?).
None of this abuse of the national symbol bothers the right-wing charlatans. Only burning the thing.

Clearly just an antogonistic question. Why is it always a case of "My side is great and loves this country, the other side is corrupt and hates this country"? Plug in whichever party you wish. I know lots of liberals and they don't burn any flags. Some (not all) might support the act of burning a flag as an expression of free speech. I've never heard any of my liberal friends claim the US flag is offensive, nor do they hate the U.S.
I have a better question: When will people stop playing so hard at party politics and truly try to work for a better country instead of just trying prove the other side wrong, evil, corrupt, hateful, etc...?

Wow yet another toughie.. i could would desire to assert e book burning,as as quickly as they're burned they're long previous, and the certainty is long previous besides.... even with the undeniable fact that flag burning is disrespectful, Patriotism would nicely be expressed and shown in lots of alternative strategies....m I actually have a neighbor that we would desire to have a flag burning social gathering for as his are very offensive, and that i've got not got self belief we are able to do something approximately them.

You have a lot of good responses, especially the initial quote from john_stolworthy.
However, here is my own unique perspective. Despite many Liberals will angrily distance themselves from juvenile stunts like flag burning, it is something practiced solely by Liberals. You never see Conservatives burning the flag. You don't see conservatives spitting on policemen, blocking traffic, dressing like dirty, drugged-out hippies and causing huge disturbances.
What Liberals do is baffling. Things that should bother no one, and don't even concern them become causes for them to champion. For example, there is a large white cross placed on a hillside in San Francisco. Sailors have long searched it out as a comforting symbol that they are close to home. The cross is not visible from the road. Still, some Libs are trying to get it removed, as if a cross commemorating our fallen soldiers is somehow inappropriate.
What a bunch of loons.

What a pity. When repubs are going to stop living in denial? When are you going to stop making up all these over-dramatic scenarios and lies? Just accept that you had a horrible president and, as Bill was accused for loosing the presidency for Gore, accept that Georgie Porgie lost the next election for you guys, and go on with your lives and start restructuring your ill fated, corrupt, in the closet gay, hypocrite, obsolete party. Stop building unimportant acts as political issues. What's next? We are going to be deemed America's haters, flag burners, because we believe Britney Spears should be given her kids back? You guys are reaching and very, very desperate, aren't you?

They are teaching our children well. I saw a clip on NBC
yesterday of a student who refused to stand during the pledge
to our flag, and when the teacher pulled the chair out from
under the student, the teacher got in trouble.
Where are the good old days where that student would have
gotten his a** beat with a paddle!

How Freudian of you to use the words "offensive and divisive" in this question!
Your imagination must be in overdrive. Liberals aren't serial flag burners or even flag removers.

I love this nation and its republic and Consitution.
You don't seem to understand the differentiation between love of one's country and holding its govenment accountable. I have a flag, acutally 3 of em.
Liberals are busy trying to save their nation from eneptitude, corruption and fascism. But you are entitled to an opinion.

the only thing that is offensive to me, are the amount of flag wavers out there waving American flags made in a communist country.
I'd rather liberals burn the flag, than allow the neocons to burn the US Constitution.
You do realize, by the flag code, that wearing our flag on apparel other than a patch is considered disrespect as well? but flag wavers keep ignoring that little fact.
Just goes to show how little you flag wavers actually know about the flag.
What do you think the government does with all those flags they replace with new ones? let me guess... the marines that throw them in the incinerator, hate America to huh??

Wait one it is ONLY the American flag they will burn.
Can you imagine what would happen if I went to SanFranisco and burn the gay pride flag?/
Talk about cooling my heals in jail for a hate crime.
People don't want to think about all the good this country has done because it makes them feel guilty. Liberals can't be grateful for what they got so they slam it.
