Sorry Suzanne, it is very hard for me to imagine peace. I know it is very hard for many out there in YAHOO answers world to imagine anyone retired military speaking peace but most of us military people want peace as well. Like Eisenhower, who hated war, we do not like war and want only peace. The problem is peace is a two way street. A classic example is WWII. As a nation we wanted nothing to do with that war in Europe. However, Hitler and the Japanese military gave us no choice. Today we have the same problem and I just can not get why as humans we can not get along. Is this because we are destined to be violent by our genetic makeup? Are we doomed by our own aggressive nature? I wish I knew the answer and could look into the future and see where we are at as a race. I watch the lower order animals when they do battles for territory on PBS and see us in their actions and it scares me. The scariest part is we are much smarter and have learned how to control the atom. I wish to the good Lord my view of us was not so dark but I can only see things for what they really are. John had the right idea but he is still to far ahead in his forward thinking ideas. That's my thoughts anyway. shellback

Ok these are my thoughts:
Peace can be attainable if we all come together and realize that if we give peace a chance the world would be a better place. World peace may never happen because some will never realize the big picture instead of being a country united we could become a world united For now all I can imagine is moments of peace..

Been in the Lennon mind set.
Imagine John Lennon
Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace
You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world
You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

I can imagine peace.
Peace isn't just the absence of war. Stopping a war doesn't bring peace. If on the other hand, there were peace the war couldn't exist!
I like the quote attributed to Yoko on the Imagine Peace website:
"A dream you dream alone is only a dream
A dream you dream together is reality"
That's really powerful.

Where a nation's principles of ethics, and their consequential principles of politcal science, are compromised by by another nation, peace will remain until the initiation of force that compromised the principles cannot be resolved by reasoned diplomacy. The only way to get peace as I believe you seem to "imagine" it, is to fail to preserve your nation's principles and allow them to be compromised, in the name of "peace." Such actions would destroy much of what you love about your nation. It would also prove you incapable of having principles, because principled people do not allow others to compromise them.
