I need to do a project for English, which is writing a book (decent length). I was wondering if anyone had any tips like:
1. How to make it flow smoothly. I always feel like I am jumping around, how can I get it to flow?
2. Make the pages fly. WHen you are reading a book and look down and say, "WHoa! I'm already on page 70!" I wanna acheive that effect.
3. Keep people reading. We need to keep people reading, such as they dont read a page and drop it.
4. ANy other tips would be appreciated too!

Please just tell me some nice ways to make my writing better. (If I get the book published and used ur advice, I'll put you in my acknowledgements)

First of all, I star all great Q and A on writing and publishihng so you can check my profile and get a lot of help.

You need an outline, good fleshed out character studies and some great strong backstories and subplots. Nobody ever has just one thing going on in their life. Your life always rubs ub againt other lives and often you drag them into your problems by accident. Those backstories and subplots are what keeps a story going. The plot is the spine of the story.

You should know as much about your characters as you do your best friends. That helps them to make decisions along the way. You should know what your characters will do in a particular situation. Observe people. Use their character traits in your characters.

Try a story arch. Draw a rainbow. On the bottom left, is called "Ground Zero" That is how things are when they are normal at the beginning. A little ways up, add your conflict. Something happens to rock these people's world. They keep trying to resolve it up until the very top of the rainbow when you have your climax. Then coming down the right side, you have your descending actions - as things approach normal again. The bottom right side I call "Ground Zero Plus". Your people are back to their normal life, but they are different somehow from having gone through this experience. That works very well for students. I use it a lot.

Lastly learn to start talking like a writer. We talk in word numbers - never pages. A novel should run about 90 to 140 thousand words. Talking in pages sounds amateur.

Get a great grade. Pax - C

Depends on the subject...if you are writing a biography you need to include life experiences. For the book to read smoothly the sequence of events should be told in the order which they happen. Include many events in the book with the climax coming toward the end then wrap things up with a summary that explains how the main events affected the whole story.

It may help if you use some of the books you have at home to give yourself an idea of where to begin and how to end. The main text is left to your imagination and life experiences.

1. Try to make it flow and DO NOT do something like this: Sarah walked over to her locker. She opened it. She grabbed her books. The bell rang. Instead do something like this: Sarah walked over to her locker and thrust it opened. The bell was going to ring soon and she needed to get to class. She grabbed her books and rushed off to class just as the beel rang.
2. Also be descriptive. Use synonyms. Like instead of: The boy walked over to the girl. Do: The boy, whose black hair was spiked up into a mohawk, strutted over to the red-haired girl.
3. Before you start writing read! It'll help you be able to stay on topic with your sentences and not jump around as much.

Hope this helps!
