Yes, I think so.
You can watch the movie in peace, you wont hear cell phones and the yakking, and you can get romantic if you like ;)

The reason drive-in theaters have gone away is because the market has changed. Even before VCRs allowed the public to see movies at home an increasing move to television movies and a switch by the theater industry to multi-screen theaters started to render the drive-in obsolete.
There are probably places where drive-in theaters could do well. I know of one in Gatesville, Texas, that does fairly well because it shows first-run movies and offers other family entertainment such as miniature golf.
I would thoroughly investigate the planned market before going into the business. Small communities might work out, especially if there are no other movie theaters in town.

I really miss going to the Drive-In. I think there are only about 3 left in Missouri.
It was such fun watching Cowboy and Indian movies, Woody Woodpecker cartoons, swinging on the swings-----all 6 of us crammed into the Woody and hogging the Indian blanket when it got cool at night.

I personally love the drive-ins and it would solve so many problems of the movie going public...no crying babies or cell phones to disturb your viewing, no more sky-high prices at the snack bar cuz you could bring your own. But think of why they closed in the first place? Lack of interest, thanks to technology (dvd players, movie rental stores, on-demand, etc) and because of the crimes committed. You'd have to open in a large city where you would have the best chance of getting the most people and have A LOT of security - and most importantly, find someone who will insure you. Too many people sue-happy these days...good luck!

They opened one up two years ago about 20 miles away from my home... 5 bucks a head and kids under 12 get in free...it always has four screens... so you have your pick of 4 double features to choose from... pretty cool... but bring your own snacks... that is where they make up for their cheap rates at the gates..

Yes! I used to love to go when I was a kid! My dad and his friends would pack up all of us kids in their trucks and let us sit on the back and watch the movie and eat popcorn & candy! It was so fun! We coud never figure out what the other dads were doing sitting in the grass way off to the side passing around the same cigarette and laughing so much though! Haha! : )

Yes I think that is a wonder idea. There is one left a few towns over from me and it stays packed during the spring and fall. They serve the basics plus burger and hot dogs. They make a killing.
Great idea

Only if you open with a zombie flick and hire actors to be zombies at the ticket booth and snack shack... Yes service would be a bit slow, but I think you would succeed.

Depends on where you are, Tman. Here in the lower Hudson Valley area of NY I know of two drive-ins and they are barely hanging on. I don't really understand why they don't do better - it's a great concept.

In my area in Baltimore, we still have one of the few surviving ones. It's called Bengies. I hate to say, but it is barely surviving. If it weren't for the owners dedication to keeping this type of entertaining on going, they probably would have closed by now. Look at it on it's site. It is quite glorious.
