Putting aside the usual if's and why's is it illegal to download
the anarchist cookbook in the uk even if it is widely available
in US. Is this another basic freedom issue, ironically when
the States are the greatest proponents of terrorists being
around evey corner.

I didn't know that the anarchists cookbook was illegal in the UK.

Glad I live in a free country where I can read whatever material suits my purpose.

I think there may be some copyright issues .... but you should be able to find lots of private work "based" on the anarchist cookbook if you really wanted to.

either way.. I'd be careful... googleing that kind of stuff can get you placed on a watch list in a hurry.

It is considered contraband material much like some other things are lumped into including water pipes, white supremest type literature, X-rated books, etc. It can draw negative attention to yourself and they can confiscate it as well as write you up for it and give you a slap on the wrist if you continually run into problems. I would send it home and not keep it in my room if I lived on base. These days they are looking for almost any reason to get rid of someone since they have half a dozen people that want to take your place.

I have heard of this book for years, since I was young in the 70s,

1) the stuff in it is presumable dangerous?

2) why would you WANT to download such stuff?

3) if it is deemed illegal...see point 2

4) if you ignore the above what are you hoping to attain?

5) If the security services kick your door down and give you a good hoofing......are they violating you? Or are they protecting me and other innocents? I think the latter!

So download it, protest about your freedoms etc but do not expect my sympathy when an armoured SAS bloke comes in and kicks the **** out of you! You take the chance. Dick.
