The Mets would have to come up with a half billion dollars to sign A-Rod and Santana to long term contracts. They would not mortgage the future of the franchise on those two players even if they had the money. Also, I believe you will see Reyes back next year. The Mets are just one or two solid players away from a championship team and a few very good small moves could get them there.

If they're smart, they'll keep Reyes and go after Santana. Glavine is too old, you don't know how healthy Pedro will be, and Oliver and Maine are still young. Santana would be a perfect fit with the Mets.

They'd be dumb to go after Nomar, he's done as a major run producer.

I don't think Damon would be a good fit either, but they do need a LF to replace Alou. A RF to replace Green would be a good move also.

If ARod leaves the Yanks, it means he's not staying in NY. He'll end up on the West Coast, probably with the Angels, maybe with the Giants or Dodgers.

They don't need Piazza. If he took a big pay cut and was just brought back as a backup C and 1B, okay, but they don't need him in a big role. I don't know if he would be available, but a young catcher I like is Kelly Shoppach of the Indians, Victor Martinez's backup. Good young catcher and a solid hitter. I think he would be a smart pickup for someone. I think Florida's backup Matt Treanor would also be a solid catcher given an everyday role.

The Mets need a true ace, an upgrade in the OF besides CF and maybe an upgrade at catcher. Besides that, they're fine. I think people are over-reacting to their late season collapse. Teams have slumps all the time, theirs just came at a very bad time. Doesn't mean they are a bad team that needs a complete overhaul, just some fine tuning. Acquiring Santana and at least one good OF to go along with Beltran would probably be enough.

And yet you Met fans complain about the Yankees buying players? How laughable & hypocritical. Keep dreaming though. Nothing wrong with that.

as a twins fan, i would be willing to give away santana (maybe for reyes?) and resign hunter. i know it's a stretch, but it would be cool.

Why ask a question if you are gonna answer it yourself.

I think they should get Joe Torre if the Yankees fire him.
