I drive a 1996 Ford Explorer 4.0L. I'm looking to buy a K&N Cold Air Intake and a Flowmaster exhaust. I'll have them both eventually, but what should I buy first?

cold air is much cheaper. and if you do the flowmaster, get some bigger pipes all the way from the catalyic converter back. it will open it up for more gains and make it sound nicer. the cold air is something you can do yourself. and unless you are an accomplished welder, its best to leave the exhaust to the pros.

Go for the cold air first. On a vehicle like that you would get about a 7-10 hp gain and about 4-7 mpg gain. When it comes to exhaust and a 4.0 ford V6, dont use flowmaster, it will sound funny. I like Flowmaster and all but on a V6 it sounds weird, go with borla or magnaflow. Don't get bigger pipes either, your engin needs back pressure. Exhaust should give you a 10-12hp gain and maby improve gas milage.
