Hey guys, 2 part question.
1- I would like to know what u guys think about an I-mac vs, Windows run desktops. I saw an I-mac recently at best buy and thought the picture was amazing, though the I-mac is a bit expensive. Also I would be using my desktop mostly for Media, chatting, downloading and web surfing so hwich is better in this regard? My friend says he wouldnt buy an I-mac becuase it has trouble running all kinds of programs, is this true?. So can someone tell me the pros and cons of an I-mac vs non I-mac?

2- Also, is it better to buy a desktop from somewhere like best buy or from an Independent computer retailer which I don't know of any in Las Vegas. And how can I find a local PC retailer if it is better?
Thats all, than u guys soo much!

I'll give you the honest version:

The other 2 guys clearly just want you to join the Mac side, just for more marketshare.

I love Mac hardware - however on terms of software, OS X is rather a pain.

The iMac has great specs, and looks awesome.

OS X is trouble for me, because none of what I need runs on OS X. Plus lots of programs won't work on OS X. A few files will transfer, but that's it. Plus several places, they do an odd job of putting a certain function or feature.

So in short words :

Mac hardware = awesome
Mac software (OS X) = not so awesome.

I only use my MacBook Pro for a few functions that's OS X only. I used to run a copy of Vista on it, but something didn't work the way they do on PC's. Plus the program ran Vista kind of slowly, and I was disappointed.

I bought a Sony Vaio laptop, and they're the best! They run Windows Vista great, and I can practically do a lot with my computer too. Plus, Vaios have a nice look to them, that's a real eye-turner.

I find Vista a pleasure to use, and it practically has everything in OS X Leopard, plus more. Like better support, more vendor choices, and a ton of compatibility. Vista is not as bad as some liars have said. It's pretty awesome, and wait until SP1 comes!

If you have anymore questions, send me an e-mail on my profile.

Oh, and as for #2: Not many PC vendors have their own stores. I got my Sony Vaio though straight from a Sony Style store at the mall.

I guess if you really need to, you could go to Best Buy and see what they have to offer to cater to your needs.

1) If all you are doing is basic browsing (viewing sites, downloading data), either operating system will satisfy your needs. It really comes down to personal choice on the operating system. What really matters is what applications you will be running. Most desktop applications tend to be written for MS Win32 based systems but Mac OSX based applications are increasing (just not very quickly, particularly with games). If you want to give Mac a shot, consider getting Apple BootCamp or Parallels to allow you to run MS Windows on the system too.

2) The traditional "brick and mortar" stores generally have a higher price and less options than an online distributor, but you do get the items immediately at local stores. The big chain stores will often have a lower price (due to volume) than the independent dealer but the independent dealer will generally have more options to customize your system.

iMacs are Great and much more secure than a windows OS machine. Plus if you really have problems with wanting to install the programs that your friend mentioned then you can actually run windows on a mac now that it runs on intel processors....
