Define winning/losing for this situation... because for the life of me I don't see what we could ever "win" over there so some definitions would be helpful... and God knows this administration has never proposed a specific goal.

It won't help us. We are a failed imperialist nation. It will take a generation or two to undo the damage that President Bush and his neo-conservative cabal have done to our country.
The first step in rebuilding American goodwill around the world would be to internationalize (and if they won't take it, "regionalize") the rebuilding of Iraq and stop being an occupying nation.

Americans uniting against a foreign enemy would go a very long way toward making America a "peace-loving" nation. As it stands now, remarks like this from Liberals do not make me feel very peaceful. Or loving.
If you think battening down the hatches from every stupid tyrant that wants to send suicide terrorists in will make us peace-loving, you're high.
