...we pay the best professional athletes as much as a brain doctor's salary, instead of 20 times his salary, and give the owners a certain amount of profit to be gained. Therefore, all the money they make off of US, the fans, could be given to the government so we won't be in debt for the next 100 years? Do you think the athletes would go on strike or realize it's for a good cause and continue playing? I know it's just hypothetical, but could this somehow work?

I didn't mean just take away from the "best" athlete's only, I meant make them the highest paid still, but only pay them as much as a brain doctor. All the less "talented" guys get less than them. Also, we should this for all sports. And Hollywood, yes, you are right. WAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY overpaid. I bet it could work, somehow...
No middle class anymore.

Why not go after Hollywood?
Football players can play for 10 years if they're good, 15 if they're among the best. And their body is completely broken down. Then most of them will only make more money if they've invested well. Actors can have careers spanning a good 70 years, and still be able to walk normally.

Professional athletes are the best at what they do. Their salaries reflect this. We see similar results in business: good CEOs make a huge amount of money off of the degrees they took time earning. Similarly in Hollywood, the best actors and actresses are paid well for their work. Why would you simply target the athletes? To be fair, you should charge all the money makers in the US to pay for the war. But then again, those people work to earn their money, does the government have a right to take it away to pay for something, even if it's important? The answer is no, it doesn't. The citizens of the US will collectively pay for the war through income taxes over time, or countries will buy up our deficit.

To relieve our nation debt we need to stop handing money out! Our debt comes from more than the war, athletes, movie stars...We are the welfare system for the world.
Example...the US gave Egypt over $2 billion in aid 1998. Why? Do you realize that every time a US Navy carrier transits the Suez Canal the Egyptians charge us a half a million dollars! Why?
We gave India $143 million in aid in 1998, yet they voted against the US in 81% of the UN resolutions brought up that same year! Why?
I believe that if we stop "handing out" all this money we would have less short comings in our budget.
Then we could start working eliminating welfare system at home.

the country owes more money than is in circulation, when you understand that money is created out of thin air , backed by nothing, by the federal reserve, it seems kind of silly talking about trillion dollar debts , how can an orginization maintain
solvency running at this level of of debt , no bussiness I know of operates like this, for very long.it just becomes ludicrous
even if you broke it down into a dollar amount per person, and paid it off, the national debt would just get run back through the roof ,like a child with a credit card...obviously there is no provision of the law prohibiting the massive debt that is being aquired, and if there is no one is enforcing it ...
maybe instead of worrying about what the gays are doing , maybe we should start worrying about where all the money is going???

Why not business owners, or real estate lawyers, or media moguls, or fast food CEO's, or bank chairmen, or insurance company presidents, or lotto winners, or ...........?
Yes they would strike, and no, it would not work.
If athletes want to give money to reduce the national debt, nobody is stopping them.
They aren't exactly forming a line.
Besides, anyone with half a brain knows that giving money to the government is the same as throwing it away.

The national debt just reached $30,000 for each person living in the USA. The athletes would have to be paid several hundred billion dollars each for it to work

IT'S A NICE IDEA BUT OUR NATIONAL DEBT IS 9 TRILLION DOLLARS THAT'S 9,000,000,000.00. IF WE WOULD SETTLE THINGS IN IRAQ, QUIT WASTING TAXPAYER DOLLARS ON PORK BARRELING, BOONDOGGLING WASTEFUL SCHEMES TO KEEP USELESS POLITICIANS IN OFFICE, FORCE THE LAZY SLOTHS ON WELFARE TO WORK FOR A LIVING, PUT A STOP TO THE MOJADOS STREAMING ACROSS OUR BORDERS AND SO MANY OTHER THINGS IT COULD BE DONE BUT TO CUT THE PAY OF A FEW SUPER STAR ATHLETES WOULDN'T BE A DROP IN THE BUCKET.

Take an Economics course. What a stupid question. The Athlete and the Doctor make not one dollar more than they are worth. Just as the illegal mowing my lawn makes not one dollar more than he deserves.
