I have an 1889 Morgan Dollar with no marking at all above the D and the O in dollar, I think that means it came from the mint in Philly, but I just cannot seem to find an average value on the coin. I see one coin worth 17000 dollars and another worth 10... PLEASE HELP ME!

well it depends, look for the mint mark on the back ( cc = carson city etc) baised on looks , scratckes/bag marks - polished/unpolished and toning will determine value. silver is at about $14 an ounce. if the strike on the coin is pure with no eyesores or marks and is very shiny , well then that sounds like a ms66, if it has light bag marks it could grade anywhere between ms60 and ms65 - a smooth chest on the bird will make the coin grade AU or VF+ at best. and rainbow toning be carfull of, you should look on http://anacs.com to get a look at real toned coins as toned coins is a result from a chemical reaction from dansco books and shows a few colors in rainbow order , and the toning looks deep v/s just on the surface or "painted on" and toning cant accur in scratches. email a picture of the coin to m-o-r-g-a-n-s@hotmail.com , both front and back and i can give you a price.

Generally speaking, if you (or any of us ordinary slobs) has it, it ain't worth squat!
Go to you local library, and find a coin collecting catalog (don't bring your coin with you, in case you might lose it! Instead, scan or copy it); any book within the past decade will suffice. Or, go to a book store or coin dealer (again, don't bring the coin; just ask a general question about its worth). You already seem to have some knowledge about it, but without at least a photo of your find, we can't give any further help!
