The French were our ally and we didnt lift a finger to help them, so in 1812, the Brits came and screwed with us.

If I'm not much mistaken you still owe him ;-). There was limited involvement by American privateers, and a few mercenaries, but these were primarily seaborne. Added to which Britain was at the height of its military power, with Sir Arthur Wellsley hammering the French all round. Britain was an all-powerful (owned 2/3 of the world....) island state in closer proximity to the area of conflict with allies scattered throughout Europe, and the best navy on the planet. If the Americans had decided to try and intervene in earnest, a lot of their men would have died in the Atlantic. It just wasn't thier war, and they couldn't afford the conflict.

Because you were a very new nation. You didn't have the logistics, or the manpower to fight a war 3000 miles away. Anyway, why would you want to get involved with a European problem. And Napoleon wasn't a very nice man anyway. You even had to pay him for Louisiana.
