Kind of. I am always trying to figure out who they are pandering too. It seems no one ever has a sincere answer, just a target group of citizens whose vote they are trying to sway.

Most politicians use very simple, carefully crafted statements to make their points. Granted, new voters might be confused by it (the vast majority of which is pure rhetoric, without any meaning or even a stance!). Once you get used to it, it all sounds the same, after a while!
Having said that, though, I recently heard a debate on my local PBS station for an upcoming election between two officials (I don't want to indicate the State or the office). I was pleasantly surprised that both party's candidates gave very specific answers to questions that they could have just given any old answers to. Unfortunately, at the end, when they were given two minutes to speak freely, they returned to their usual blather!
Good for you for at least giving it (and yourself!) a chance to determine our future leaders!

Hi~I "try" to stay out of this section, not always successfully--because there's so much turtle snapping, but I saw it was from you, & the question is so general there's no room for debate...(I think..).
Honestly, I don't think that I do. I "know" many of them so well, I have a sort of inside track on the way they speak, what motivates them & how each expresses this. Usually with transparent ambiguity. There is ONE in particular, who is incredibly composed & articulate, & at the end has said nothing at all. Amusing!
I hope no one makes any assumptions about who I mean!

When I see politicians, and I include administration officials and the White House Press Secretary in this category, I just want them to answer the question instead of tap dancing around it or saying "I'm not going to answer that question". My guess is that if they really answered the questions more of the time, people would be asking themselves "what are they talking about" less of the time.

And just about the time I think I've figured out what the catch is, here comes a news anchor to tell us all what they think they said! I believe they will say anything depending on which special interest group they are trying to influence into voting for them.

Yes, that is why they call it politics. Its suppose to confuse you and put you in a daze. That is the best way to get one over on you, you are so busy trying to figure out what is going on (and being said) to care about the issues. Normally I change the channel to save brain cell loss induced by boredom .

No, but you have to realize that when politicians are on TV they are only saying what is going to get them votes. And a lot of times, depending on what program or channel they are one, they're directing their speech to a certain type of person who they are trying to gain votes from.

I usually say "what did you just say? Or you talked in circles so much that you said absolutely nothing." Hillary is the worst right now. She is for everything as long as she isn't against it, but she might still be for it if its a monday, wednesday, or Friday during a leap year but that doesn't me she is for it or against it. So are you for it or against it, YES.
