Hestia was the hearth keeper. Her job was to literally keep the home fires burning. This task or ritual symbolised the nurturing and continuity of a spiritual force within the home.

Olympic Torch originally honored the Greek goddess Hestia

Hestia is perhaps the least remembered of the twelve Olympians, and not undeservingly. She was Goddess of the Hearth, and always stayed home, never leaving to dabble in the affairs of men and gods. Her Roman counterpart, Vesta, was revered above all other gods; every meal began and concluded with an offering to her.

As far as family life goes, Hestia's was rather turbulent. She was the firstborn of the Olympians, sired by Cronus shortly after he had "unmanned" the tyrannical Uranus. Unfortunately for Hestia, it had been prophesized that Cronus would be undone by his offspring, so he had the brilliant idea to eat them as they were born. It was thus that Hestia came to spend the first part of her life in her father's stomach, until Zeus liberated her and her siblings, and they came to be the elite of the gods.

Like Athena and Artemis, Hestia was a virgin goddess, and so has no godlings to continue her lineage. Despite this fact, there has developed a tendency to view her as something of a matronly presence. Even in the days of Greece she was associated strongly with domestic life. She is also sometimes presented as a Goddess of Flame, presumably referring to the flame of the hearth. In her temples, a sacred flame would remain always lit in her honor. Due to her family-oriented value system and her tendency to stay at Olympus, Hestia could be considered the patron saint of the stay-at-home mom.

In Greek mythology, virginal Hestia is the goddess of the hearth, of the right ordering of domesticity and the family, who received the first offering at every sacrifice in the household. In the public domain the hearth of the prytaneum or town hall functioned as her official sanctuary. With the establishment of a new colony, flame from Hestia's public hearth would be carried to the new settlement.

Hestia Jones is not mentioned much in the series and really is not worth doing a character profile on. I know all characters are important but she's only ever mentioned in passing and is not a min character if you have a choice I'd change. Hestia Jones is a member of the second order of the phoenix (the one of the 2nd war) and is a part of the advance guard responsible for picking Harry up from the Dursleys and taking him to headquarters in OOTP. She is a pink cheeked. black haired witch who never says much but appears friendly. In the flying formation they adopt to take Harry back to headquarters Hestia is one of the many witches and wizards who circle the group to prevent anything bad happening. In Harry Potter and the deathly hallows Hestia along with Dedalus Diggle collects the Dursleys from Privet Drive and takes them into hiding. This is the first time you hear her speak, she forces Diggle to wait outside in the hall while Harry farewells the Dursleys and is genuinely outraged when Vernon Dursley calls wizards "your lot!" And her vioce rises in outrage when Harry insists that it doesn't matter. When Aunt Petunia cried and embraced Dudley Hestia was happy because she believed for a split secxond that Hestia was going to embrace Harry but it again turned to outrage when she embraced Dudley instead of Harry. When Petunia through her sobs says that it was excellent of Dudley to say thank you in outrage Hestia says that Dudley merely said Harry was not a waste of space and did not say thank you at all. Harry however finds it quite amusing. As they leave the Dursleys Hestia farewells Harry and wishes him luck. This one excerpt in the chapter The Dursleys Departing is the only time Hestia really addresses Harry.
