I live in Mississippi and am currently attending Ole Miss, and I hate it. I just have to get out of the south before I go crazy. So the only time I've ever been to San Diego was when I drove there and only stayed for a short week without really getting acquainted with the city. I don't really know what the good and bad areas of SD are, so I was wondering what the best community college in the area is based on that I prefer it to be in a nice part of town, attendees median age range be in the 20's, and it not be a run down campus. I thought about attending SD city college but the counselor told me the median age was in the 30's and 40's. Also, If anyone could give me advice on a nice area to live near the community college they suggest and any other extra advice that could help me with my move would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I highly recommend Mesa college. I went their for for my first two years and feel I got a better education than at the 4 year university I went to. In fact, when writing papers I dug out some of my old Mesa text books and relied heavily on them to get A's. I ended up with a BA and a 3.69 GPA. Mesa really helped.

Mesa is adjacent to Clairemont. That's a nice suburb of San Diego. Clairemont is between Mesa and Pacific Beach. You can study in Clairemont and party in PB. You get all three-worlds in a five mile stretch. Check out these zip codes, 92117 and 92109.

City College has a higher median age because it has a lot of technical courses offered to people already working in various fields like machinists, car repair, etc.

Good luck to you and check out the demographics of the area and the school.

I would say when it comes to classes San Diego City college is by far the best, but if you just want to socialize and be with the younger crowd Southwestern College is alright.

Mesa, and Miramar Colleges are nice and they fall under City college jurisdiction (in other words the higher administration is the same) Those have a younger crowd and are in nicer places in town.

Grossmont and Cuyamaca are in the east part of the county and offer great programs and you also have the young crowd factor during the daytime classes and that older crowd in the evening classes. City college does have younger crowds but that is during the day classes, but more people attend the evening classes.

If you are looking for a cheaper place to live and good school I would recommend Grossmont College which is in the La Mesa area. It is a great school, younger crowd (for what that is worth) and nice place to live around there.
