Public places yes. Public but PRIVATELY owned, NO. It should be at the owners discretion, not the governments.
If cigarettes are that bad, then they need to be illegal so even the government cannot reap the benefits of tax money on them.

Yes.
And I already have a statewide one here in Ohio. About 70% of our citizens here dont smoke, yet the ban only passed by like 5%. To bad for local business that michigan doesnt have one yet (i live two miles from the border).
And to answer some other posts, a public place is anywhere you can go that doesnt require either ownership or membership. Basically anywhere that you or I could go without getting kicked out.

Not unless they ban drinking alcohol in public places. I don't smoke regularly, but every once in a while I like to have a cigarette while having a beer in a bar. I don't think there is much wrong with that.
I'm pretty astonished that so many people hold so much animosity to people just because they smoke.

What do you consider a public place? It seems privately owned business always get corralled into the "ban in public places" debate....I think privately owned business should be allowed to make their own decision as to whether or not smoking is allowed. As for ACTUAL public places - places owned and maintained by the government - that's a whole nother story. Personally, I don't agree with any smoking bans. But I'm biased.
