Obviously all the gods are made up. But were any of the characters in the stories real? I know in real life there really was a Trojan war and they did use a wooden horse to get inside. What about the kings? Were there really kings called Agamemnon, Odysseus, etc.?

To answer this question you have to understand in every culture on earth, certain stories are just true, and transformed to fit that culture. The Egytians, and the Greek share most the same gods, by different names. Now the truth is that in those days people had enough since of reality that they knew for sure that one god could not have made the whole earth by him self. This makes since, believe it or not, I man may build a house, but many men can build cities. Do some research and you will see the same mythology repeated several times. Normally when one group takes over another, they take their gods and rename them. Check it out. To truly answer the question I think at one point they did exist if only in the minds of the people, the only problem is that history backs most of these stories to a tee.

I also ask that you think of this if there gods (slash Alien Being) are not real how do you explain the buildings they built being lined up with constalations, and galaxies.

Try this out for size, lets say you are a scientist, and you crashed landed on a distant planet. The locals are primitive, creatures, and every thing you do seems god like to them.

much of Greek and Roman mythology is BASED on truth. Even the gods may have their basis on fact because of certain acts or feats that they performed that seemed miraculous to people in that time. Many were also made up to explain what they could not yet explain. There were some extemely smart inventors at that time that propegated the theory behind gods by building shines that spoke, played music, opened doors or started fountains after you placed you tribute (coins) into a slot.

Talk about trivialization! Let's turn this around for a different perspective. "Obviously all the gods are made up"? Why? What's the difference between this and Judeo-Christian mythology? Lots of the characters in their stories are real. Shall we then just assume that the "God" was obviously made up? Just a thought........

Yes. These are historical characters as are Helen and Hector.Your assumptions about the gods may or may not be correct. They were very real to people in that day and age.
