implantation truly does exist but not all women experience this with pregnancy. happens in about 1 in 4 pregnancies.
i had it with my pregnancy, a day of spotting the day before my missed period.
also, when i worked in fertility, if a woman experiences implantation bleeding, usually there is a pocket of blood near the gestational sac. i have seen it during ultrasounds.
implantation is an inflammitory process that causes blood vessels to open in order to give nutrients to the developing embryo. when this happens, it's like trying to redirect your plumbing without turning off the water first, you get spilliage. the blood collects above the gestational sac. it starts to come out as the sac grows. that is why some women get it before their period or after, depending on how much bleeding there is and if most of it gets trapped above the sac.
another reason for bleeding is if the placenta starts to separate from the uterus. it requires bedrest to repair and protect the pregnancy, and is more serious than implantation bleeding. this usually occurs much later is pregnancy.

I'll probably get a ton of thumbs-down for this, but I think it's a myth. I've been pregnant four times and I've never had it, nor has anyone I know in real life had this either. How a single egg (fertilized or not) not even the size of a head of a pin burrowing into the endometrium can cause spotting that would last all the way out of the uterus, through the cervix and vagina and onto your underwear or panty liner is beyond me. Some people may experience irritation that takes place the same time as implantation, but I think it's a coincidence or people just looking for it as a 'sign.' You can spot anytime, pregnant or not.

If you get all of your information on yahoo! answers then you'd probably think implantation bleeding is common. In fact, it is very rare, but it does exist. I personally never had it neither did any of my 4 sisters or my mom and none of my friends that I know of. My aunt did have some light spotting early in her pregnancy, but she didn't really know if it was implantation bleeding or just from her hormones being out of whack. I think yahoo! answers was really the first place I ever heard of implantation bleeding.

I've had 2 full term pregnancies & 2 miscarriages. I never had implantation bleeding with any & do not know of anyone personally who has. I don't think that it is a very common occurance because noone I know has had it. There are women, however, who spot lightly around the time that they would've gotten their period. I don't know if this is what they're calling implantation bleeding. You could ask your OB their opinion.

I had implantation bleeding and thats how I knew I was pregnant. I experienced this light pink discharge a week before I was suppose to get my period and it continued for about 1.5 weeks. I called my Dr a week after my missed period for a blood test (the at home test continued to show negative) Even at the office I took another urine test and the Dr came in to say that I was NOT pregnant...I insisted on having them draw blood simply because I was having symptoms I had never experienced before. Sure enough she called me the next day with the good news. If you have any doubt go in for a blood test, its the only way to know for sure!

Implantation spotting does. But not period like bleeding.
You can bleed when pregnant, but its not from an implanting ovum.
Both are very rare.

Yes it does. Not every woman experiences it, but it does exist. If you read a website that says otherwise, you need to do more research and ignore that site.
