I live in Mississippi and am currently attending Ole Miss, and I hate it. I just have to get out of the south before I go crazy. So the only time I've ever been to phoenix was when I stopped and perused about for a little bit somewhere near Scottsdale on my way to San Diego (drove all the way there :o). So I plan on trying to move somewhere in the Tempe area seeing as how I'm 20 and it seems like a place I'd get along well in since ASU is there but being out of state and still being in my first two years of college I think a community college would work best seeing as how its cheaper, so I was wondering what the best community college in the area is. I would prefer it to be in a nice part of town, attendees median age range be in the 20's, and it not be a run down campus. I've only heard of Scottsdale community college and Mesa community college but no specifics on either. Also, if there is any extra advice anyone would like to give me about my move I'd appreciate that too, thanks

I went to GCC (Glendale Community College - main campus and north campus) for pharmacy prerequisites. The main campus is a HUGE campus that offers a little bit of everything. I needed to take evening classes due to my work schedule and it worked out great!
My brothers went to PVCC (Paradise Valley Community College) for Fire Science and they had a lot of fun. They both work for the Phoenix Fire Department now.
I guess it just depends on what you are interested in and where you live. Since you are looking to move to the east area you might want to check out Scottsdale Community College. Here is a link to a website that has all the community college info:

Good luck!

Hi ! I just moved out here in May, and had to figure out all new things too! I attend Scottsdale Community College right now and really like it. The campus is really nice! Great view of the mountains. Beware of the cost of tuition though. You have to be an Arizona resident for a year to qualify for instate tuition. I am paying 2,000 a semester right now. It is cheaper than ASU though still, bc ASU's tuition for out of state residents is over 8 thousand! 7 more months too go for me until I'm considered an "in state" student....grrrr. Advce bout your move....make sure you are financially ready. My husband and I found that out the hard way when we moved here....car insurance is more, our power bill is more, and we don't make the same amount of money that we used too, which are downsides. But the weather is finally startin to get nicer and AZ is really beautiful, even if I am a city girl at heart. Email me if you wanna chat!

This is funny. I just answered your question regarding Mesa College in San Diego. I recently moved to Buckeye, AZ on the westside of Phoenix. The high marks for SCC are right. It is a nice upscale city and they've got their educational act together. The only difference between Mesa CC in San Diego and SCC is the temp.
Either college is fine.

All of the community colleges in the Phoenix metro area are linked to one another and offer different curriculum. They are all good schools with great credentials and extra curricular programs for the student base. The questions is what are you studying? If you are simply going for core classes, go based upon where you want to live (Tempe) and try Mesa CC or Scottsdale CC for proximity. Otherwise choose the best one for your major.
Good luck, Phoenix is a great area to live and study.

I did my first two years at SCC before transferring to ASU, and I just loved it. The teachers are well qualified and the class size is small. You get a lot of individualized attention. There is a big mix of ages from people who just graduated high school, early 20's, and older people who are returning to school. The mix of ages gives a really interesting perspective in the classroom. It's right off the 101 and really easy to get to.
