When a white person wants to go to college there parents just usually write a check out for them.

When a black person wants to go to college they have to get a job WHILE in school. They have to juggle paying bills, studying, and going to work. It is much harder for a black person to go to school then a white person.

My (black) co-worker has a step son who has a 2.7 grade point average. This kid is so "out standing" that all he has to do in order to receive a four year scholarship at the University in my town is take one course at the University every summer. He's fifteen. This summer, he took the "Hip Hop D.J." course. My niece, on the other hand(white girl) gets A's in all her classes, did better than 4.0 but doesn't have enough charity work in her "resume" to go to the same school, so she's attending a smaller school a few miles away. Oh yeah, and she has a job. In my neck of the woods, to get into the school of their choice, a white kid must have a perfect grade point average PLUS they have to have done a lot of civic work as well- building houses for habitat for humanity, etc. I see very little of what you're describing and a whole lot of what I just described to you.

When black people were freed from slavery (I know that's a very long time ago) they were dirt poor. They've been working their way up since, but their are many neighborhoods filled with poor minorities, and many of them don't go to college. In an atmosphere like that, their is less incentive to study hard to go to college, and less reason to believe in yourself that it's possible to make something of yourself. Plus, since stereotypically these are poor people, they lack the money to go to college and it's a serious bit of planning to actually go. I don't know if you're black or not, but good job on going to college, it's important.

Not every white person has a road to college paved with ease either though. Many of them struggle too. My ex gf is $100,000+ in debt from college.

You may not realize this, although I took out student loans to the tune $30,000 like many white students do to finish college educations, the majority of problems and misfortunes in the black community aren't the cause of ill-planning, poor decision making skills, bad choices, and simply criminal behavior, but the majority of these tragedies can be directly attributed to "the man"
Scratch the idea that most of the parents of college students, black or white, work hard and scrimp and sacrifice to send their kids to college. NO, that wouldn't have a thing to do with it would it?

Most black parents do not plan well enough financially to be able to afford to assist their children with college education. But if more young black adults were not in such a hurry to join the joyless masses of adulthood, they could live on loans and grants and not have to work while in college. They want to have a car and other things that they have convinced themselves that are neccessities, so they have to earn the money for these things themselves. If you stay at home another 4 years, and forego some of your social activtity you can be a full time student without working.

I'm white. My parents can't just write a check. I have to work and support my family. I can't finish college. I can't just write a check for my daughter to go to college. She's having a difficult time paying for college and I'm having a hard time watching her struggle. She doesn't qualify for grant money and I'm afraid we'll starve. If I could go to college it'd be a lot easier for my family and me. I'm not sure if my race has anything to do with it. Good luck. 2D

That is an absurd assumption to imply that white kids parents just write out a check for college.

No, because not all whites have it like that. You would be astounded by the poverty in America.

My parents did pay part of my college education, the rest came from loans, grants, and scholarships!

Proud College Grad!

Peace!

You're right I'm at work right now, bored to death and I go to school every other day I take 17hrs

Grades don't matter in American society, I had a 4.7 on 5.0 scale in college I have a 3.7 on 4.0 scale, I got few scholarships but it still isn't like what most white people get not to mention it's easier for them to get a job whereas I got my job off of knowing somebody. My parents both went to college and they said that it wasn't as hard as it is now for blacks to get money, like I've always said we are steady going down because people are to scared to stand up against racism

Boo hoo for you!
Don't be mad, because your parents don't pay your way. It's not anyone's fault but theirs. Maybe your parents don't want to spend their money on you going to college, because they know that you'll just end up working at McDonalds anyway. If your parents saved money for your education, then maybe you wouldn't be talking out of your *** right now.
