Look... if bright lights, loud music and long sleepless nights is torture then most teenagers would be put in jail for what they have done to their parents... I get that... but when autopsies are telling us that a substantial number of people are dying of heart attacks, asphyxiation and blunt force trauma... wouldn't you agree it's time to look into our methods? Also.. one more thought. They admit the methods they use are the very same methods we use on our own soldiers (that volunteer) to prepare them if they are ever caught behind enemy lines.. and they justify it that we use it on our soldiers so it must not be torture... doesn't just the fact that our enemies would use it contradict this? So wouldn't you agree it's worth looking into our methods.. as opposed to just "assuming everything is fine"?

"They're bad, so we don't have to be good" isn't exactly taking the moral high ground now is it? The only way to become better as a nation is to act the part.

The statements given by the Gov. about torture along with their claims of using the same method on US solders are nothing but a "big pile of horse sh!!.."
America, by its hypocrisy and lies( which, are all well documented) has left no credit to believe its claims!
US's the biggest microphone ever, always try to portrait itself as an innocent little thing and the rest of the world is ought to destroy her!!! Which is, all the way around!
It's just too sickening to see, America always says one thing and does the other!!
The tortures done by US specialists is beyond every ones acceptance and sadly top of the line, i might add!

This is one of those behind closed doors issues. They only tell what they tell to give people something to chew on. You really think it's that innocent? That they would give purview into such methods? They do stuff that would make movies like Saw seem Disney. They are going to do whatever they want because these things are secret ops and they are not accountable to anyone. Looking into it is a waste of time. You'll get some half-*** PR stunt on behalf of the State department claiming they only hurt them a little and that they cannot comment further on procedure.
There are contracts out there for professional torturers. they're usually doctors too. They know biology and its vulnerabilities. There are also pshychiatric professionals who get free reign on progress new psycho therapies applied for information extraction. Horrible ****. In this day of new technologies, pharmaceuticals, and psychology they make the Japanese look like they were just toying around with the he Chinese during the Nanjing massacres.

That would require a lot of honest soul searching and common sense. When a nation accepts the idea that the end justifies the means, it looses any moral high ground it may have held.
Also, from the Inquisition to the Soviet Gulags to Guantanamo, torture has served no legitimate purpose as anyone will lie to stop the torture. So it becomes a sadistic form of dealing, with many times, innocent individuals.

Isn't there such a thing as "truth serum" I've heard it was used in interrogation procedures years ago. Why not use that, or at least concoct a more potent version now?

well... the thing is... the world views this as hypocrisy... and it really is...
America has always been at the forefront of criticizing others for their treatment of prisoners...
now when things get sticky... the U.S. does it too?
looks bad... real bad...
and yes, we should look into it...

Bush has both said we do and we don't torture. I believe we do. That is hypocritical.

and if we never tortured, would that have save the blackwater people from being burned and hung. the black hawk down situation may have been avoided. the whole issue shoulld only apply to nation that abide by the geneva convention. otherwise if they do not give you the info you want, whether they have it or not, be executed in like fashion. do you really care? after all they would, they did not think twice before attending to mr. byrd. cut his head off with no remorse. that is what those people understand.

I have come to this very simple conclusion............I will start worrying about our methods and what "torture" really is when our enemies stop cutting the heads off of their prisoners on live internet video feeds.
