Oh my gosh, I thought that was all behind me. I actually really thought it was going to happen. I did a thesis on it and was did a story on the local news channel about it.
Needless to say I was a bit embarrassed about it afterwards.
But I did look good on TV, if I may so myself!!!

LOL

The problem was that computers were all set with "19--" for the date and people were SURE that the computers wouldn't be able to handle the change-over to "20--".

I work at a bank, as I did then, and people went nuts getting statements, withdrawing wads of cash, etc., because they thought that everything was going to crash. It was ridiculous. All they had to do was figure out that the computers were programmed to count one number higher-- not just 19 and two numbers after it...

One fella brought me $35,000 that he'd had hidden in his freezer in tin foil since Y2K-- in 2004!!

All mainframe computers were only programmed to go to 1999 - so n-one really knew what would happen at midnight on the 31 December when the clock went over at midnight!

They were supposed to be unable to deal with 000 and the 2 was supposed to be that(ie.000x2) times two
