First, the 7th grade boy was a moron. Second, I think the punishment fits the crime for a first offense. Looks like he is off to a great start in life.

I plead the 5th on the first question.
As to the 7 year old boy - well it is indecent exposure and a school bus is still under the guise of "school rules". If you drop trow in the hallway you would be punished so I guess it would be the same aiming your nekkid rear at a school bus full of classmates.
I think 2 days is reasonable for a first offense - and lets hope he learned that his full moon is meant to be kept under wraps.

No the student shouldnt have been expelled from school, but I'd expect a 3 Day Out of School suspention or a 5 day In School Suspention. But no, if I mooned someone they'd not only be scarred for life, they'd be blind!!

I am a firm believer that everyone should know how, and when, to deliver a righteous mooning, and that everyone should know how to graciously receive one.
I have mooned, and been mooned many times. One event in particular stands out.
I was aerating a lawn---many people don't know what that is, so I'll explain---you run a machine over a lawn that punches holes in the dirt---this helps the sioil loosen up and helps the water get in. The customer warned me to stay away from the neighbor's Doberman, and I said, "yes, maam," and did not give it much thought, because I get along quite well with dogs and did not intend to reach over anyone's fence anyways...
Ok, running an aerator is similar to mowing a lawn, you go back and forth. The doberman was barking and snarling over the fence---I ignored it. I'd go back and forth, and every time I came near him he went into a frenzy, and I ignored him.
On my second-to last lap, as I turned my back on him, he reached over the fence and bit me---hard---on the behind. I finished the job, limping, and on the next lap tried to kick the doberman in the face as he lunged again---I missed, because I hurt...then I loaded my machine in my truck and knocked on the neighbor's door.
An older lady answered, and I told her, politely, what had happened. She did not believe me---she was an unhappy-llooking woman with frown lines and a raspy voice, and she suggested that her neighbors had put me up to this kind of dishonesty, and maybe I wanted to sue her?
So I gave her a major, major mooning. As an added bonus, which I did not plan but when the bubble moved I took advantage of the opportunity, I blew a small kiss at her. She was, uh, taken aback.
I calmly told her that I did not wish to sue her, I simply wanted to know if her dog had had all of his shots. She was shaken, red in the face, and the blood on by behind was obvious evidence that I was telling the truth. She stammered, "yes, he has his shots, he's licensed, do you want to see it?" I answered, no, I'll take your word for it, just please give me your phone # in case I have any further problems. She did, and I left.
The next year, when I did the customer's lawn again, I first knocked on the neighbor's door and asked that she please secure her dog. she was very nice to me, even smiled---which was obviously something that she did not do often...and after I finished the job she asked me to come to her house and do the same thing, and gave me a nice tip.
The moral of this story---you can make money when the moon shines.

No, sounds like the punishment fit the crime. He did indecently expose himself on the bus. Expulsion would have been too far. Better than suspension - which is really a reward - might have been a one on one detention type class.

i have mooned people a few times....once in school. i mooned another kindergartener during naptime. i got in trouble and got a phone call home and they let my parents deal with me. that was however over 20 years ago.
times are different now....anything involving the private parts is now considered sexual harassment.
i think that it sounds a little harsh considering he simply mooned the bus and didn't actually assault or attack anyone. apart from grossing the other kids out, i don't think it was that harmful. but like i said...school districts are so afraid now of sexual harassment and lawsuits that they try and make an example out of someone...sounds like this poor kid was the sacrificial lamb!

been there done that in high school. The whole sexual harrasment thing is bogus. I got 12 hours of saturday school for my poor choice in judgement. Which was way worse than being suspended. seeing as how dad had to take me to school every saturday morning and then pick me up at noon for three weeks.

Where is our freedom? I am a girl and I have mooned numerous people. Plus 7th graders I'm sure see lots of nude butts on t.v. every day, then some kid is joking around, and he is being treated like he killed someone.

This is an incredibly P-whipped society we live in today. People are just looking to get offended and the system is set up to throw the book at anyone who oversteps the predetermined "moral-boundaries"
It's ludicrous

Of course I have. Especially at that age. I think it's ridiculous that they would even consider expelling the kid. Green Bay Packer fans moon the opposing team as they are leaving their stadium for Christ's sake.
