When you must use other mainstream products, use them responsibly, that is, sparingly and dispose of them properly.

Use man-power and common sense or other safe alternatives before reaching for chemicals. Elbow grease. Cleaning with the correct product, allowing it time to work. Soak in hot soapy water. Steam. Clean up messes right away before they are harder to clean.

Choose reusable tools. Broom and dustpan, rags, etc instead of disposables for everything.

When you are decluttering, try to find things another home if you can so it doesn't end up in the landfill. You can try to reuse an item somewhere else in your home, or give it to someone who can use it as is, or recycle it.

Use eco-friendly garbage bags. I think they are made of soy or corn.

Also, there are a lot of products out there that claim to be "enviro friendly". Rule of thumb, if you read the product list on the label and you can't pronounce an ingredient, then it probably isn't environmentally friendly.
