Steinbrenner is not an "idiot"- he IS a loudmouthed, stubborn, opinionated, overbearing, pompous blowhard (and keep in mind I am a lifelong Yankee fan.)
I've had bosses like this, who think they can motivate by fear and intimidation- which is why Joe is such a perfect manager for the Yankees: he balances all of Steinbrenner's noise, and has even kept the boss pretty quiet for the past few years- until now.
George does have a right to be a bit annoyed that his high priced team hasn't won a ring in 7 years, but opening his big yap and making threats while the playoff series is still on does little to help your players win. It may make them press too hard to try to win, etc.
Bottom line: Yanks lost because they didn't have the pitching and defense that wins games consistently, the Indians did this time. My advice is ditch the dead weight (Giambi, Clemens, Farnsworth, maybe Mussina and Damon) and resign A-rod, Pettite, Rivera, Posada and KEEP JOE TORRE. Get someone who can play 1B and hit, and either find a new RF or maybe resign Abreu, and rotate the DH between Matsui, Duncan, and/or some new player. Just a thought...

Steinbrenner thinks that all it takes to win a World Series is money.. He feels that if he overpays a bunch of has been players he will win a championship. I think the biggest mistake the Yankees made this year was overpaying for Roger Clemens. {So glad the Red Sox didn't sign him} I hope that if Steinbrenner does fire Torre that Torre signs a long time deal with Tampa Bay. If Torre Signs with Tampa Bay I guarantee that the Rays will win the World Series just to piss off Steinbrenner.
I wish the Yankees would have beaten the Indians because the Yankees would have been easier for the Red Sox to beat.
Red Sox will be the 2007 World Series Champions
Devil Rays will be the 2008 World Series Champions
{of course with there new name and uniforms}

Peter V is right
Joe torre has won 4 WS with the yankees, i mean sure not recently but come on with an owner like that breathing down ur back, and all the other things outside of baseball, it's not his fault. Normally it's the players fault or the GMs fault and yet the Managers are fired. Get real
Joe Torre deserves better but i think his baseball career is over
Hey he's a Hall of famer
Good Player
Great Manager

George Steinbrenner's ego gets the best of him when the Yankees struggle, especially if the Red Sox are doing well and the Yankees aren't...
I think Torre will be the manager still...If Steinbrenner was gonna fire him, he would have done it already...Plus, Torre has the support of the team, the mayor (Bloomberg), and the former mayor running for president(Giulianni)

The Yankees ownership logic seems to be that they have the best players SO they should be winning. That leaves the manager to blame. The management figures with the players they have, they should be in the world series every year.
Its hard to put blame on a single player. So if the team fails, they feel it moust be the manager to blame.

B/c they think it was his fault but it is not like i am a yankee fan and all but they played horrible their pichers were no help and they could haqve been better so I dont think he should be fired because baseball is a team sport they should not blame it on one person.
Joe torre is a great manager he got them 4 world series wins lead them to their 13th postseason he done a great job and I think he need a second chane

Steinidiot is all about money. He has a good manager but everything is about money. Joe will hopefully come out on top when this is over. He has done a good job but like every team, there are difficult years. And I agree, they are overpayed. But I guess that really depends on how much you like the game and the politics of it.

Steinbrener is a loser. He did the same thing with billy Martin in the 70's. Torre will get another chance.
