Don't have that much money laying around the house, keep alot of it in the bank. But whatever money you do keep in the house or importnant documents, its always a good idea to have in a fire proof safe.

If you watch some shows like I think it is called "it takes a theif" or that one show where they send someone who is a convicted theif to clear out someone's home in front of cameras, to show the homeowners the security problems with their home. What happens with small safes, on this show is that the theif will simply just steal the entire safe, and open it later.

Now, if the safe is like one of the tall gun safes that weigh several hundred pounds then I would hazard that it would be okay, but a small one will simply get stolen if your are blugarized. The other thing a theif will do if they know you have money in the safe is force you at gun point to open it. This happened to a realitive of mine, very scary situation.

So, is keeping money around your house important enough to risk this kind of situation, or do you have a really good alarm system in the house.

If it were me, I would take the money out of the bank and keep it at the bank or another bank in a saftey deposit box.

I wouldn't want to have that much cash in the house.

A fire proof safe would only offer some measure of protection. Someone still might break in. A real fire proof safe would be expensive.

No. Someone might steal the safe.
