I mean, you have whoever, whatever, whenever, wherever, and however. Why not whyever? Why?

Great question. Im taking a stab in the dark here: maybe because WHO, WHAT, WHERE, & WHEN all deal with something real/tangible, while WHY does not....

Whyever is a real word... At least according to the Merriam dictionary. However, you can still only use it in a question "unlike whoever, whatever, whenever, wherever, and however." Shame it's underlined in red on Yahoo.

drshorty, I'm a linguist too. According to linguistics, anything is a word in a said language as long as the people who speak the language implement it. In our day and age, whyever isn't used very often, but most native speakers (at least in my area of the US) would understand if someone said "whyever do people no longer say whyever?"
