How is expressing a preference being close-minded? We're talking about "art" here, and tastes are subjective, not objective. Sounds like whoever's calling you close-minded is being a bit of a bigot against you for not appreciating their style of "music". I HATE the stuff. I won't listen to it because it irritates my ears, angers me to endure, and provides me no pleasure at all, not that I haven't listened to some of it in order to form my opinion prior to stating my case. THAT would be close-minded, as well as stupid, forming an opinion on something to which you've never been adequately exposed to form an educated opinion regarding. Merely disapproving of the genre for your own personal music that you play is not in any way AGAINST rap, simply that it isn't to YOUR LIKING. BTW...Rap..the word that's missing a "c". OR....The "c" in rap is silent. lol

Who ever is calling you close minded sounds a little close minded them self. Every one is entitled to their own personal opinions, likes and dislikes. There is a wide variety of music out there because there is a wide variety of people. That's what makes the world so interesting. It would be pretty boring if we all said, did and liked the same thing. Hope this helps. Peace

No. They should be commending you on your good taste. Who cares who likes what music?? Variety is the key, but rap tends to have too much violence, sex and focus on drug use for my taste. I'm not closed minded for not liking rap. The beat and the bass and too much focus on illegal things don't appeal to me. Same with hip hop. But I like the "clean" rap. Will Smith has done some things I like.
It's not that I hate rap, it's that I don't like the message it sends in most of the songs. And bass makes me anxious (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder), so it's actually due partly to a medical condition.
Like what you like. Listen to what you think is good. People likely think I'm closed-minded about rap, but I can't help it if it doesn't appeal to me. I don't like country music, either. (*gasp*) But, every now and then there is a song I just love to laugh with. Like "I've Got Friends in Low Places" and "Before He Cheats". So, don't let them get to you. It's like calling you closed-minded because you won't eat boiled okra. Well, so what? At least you like the fried chicken that came with it!

Listen to that statement "they say I was close minded because I dont enjoy rap"
That would make them close-minded for thinking you HAVE to listen to rap.
Besides, rap music now-a-days are just 3-4 minute commercials for various products you'll never buy.

i dont think youre being closed minded if you at least gave it a serious try. I pretty open minded on music. I listen to everything except most country and heavy metal. I say most because if i hear a song i like thats in either of those categories, i still will listen to it. you dont have to like everything to be open minded, you just have to give it a chance.

No way!
I tried listening to rap also, didn't like it.

WEll obviously that person is closed minded if they can't realize that there is different strokes for different folks. You are not close minded cause if you were you wouldn't have even bothered to try to like it or even listen to it. Its just not your cup of tea but atleast you are OPEN enough to tried it. Next time someone says that say takes one to know one and then ask them if they like country or rock?

i don't think that you're closed minded, but if people ask you about a song or something and you just say you don't like it without listening to it, then yes you are closed minded. if you don't do that, then you're fine. i'm the same way ith the rock and metal, but i do like a couple rap songs.

Close minded? They are playing a mind game, so why not play one back? Find some kind of music they don't enjoy and call them closed minded for not choosing to listen to it and as they argue their point it's just not their taste - likewise. They have made your point for you!!!

If you've tried then that is in no way close-minded. When people refuse to try something new...that is close-minded. At least you gave it a chance and if you don't like it that is you. Everyone is their own person. Just be you and keep rockin' on.
