Maybe not every little bone!...but yes, the gist of those skeletons because they affected who I later became as a person and framed values, beliefs, character and lifestyle. I didn't pop out of the oven all put together yet grew into who I am through trial, adversity and blessings...and as long as divulging those skeletons didn't harm someone else then I'd do it.

The skeletons in the closet will remain there. I rather get a bad book review for the most boring life then to let anyone in on my past. LOL. While I share some spicy stories with people that I know, I also know that there are somethings that never, ever should come too light. Some things must go to the grave with you.
Bit of advice to one and all reading this. I did make the mistake of revealing some (not all) of my past incidents. Talk about a big mistake. I quickly applied the brakes on the rest of my life's story. It was a full blown damage control. LOL
Fight the urge to reveal. You might be alive to relive them in a not so pleasant way.
Here's my last piece of advice. Don't ever give details of your past flings to your spouse, especially if you end up divorcing her/him. My previous wife knew too much.
So if writing your life history, fudge it with humor. Embellish the good times and forget whats in the closet.

Hmmm... I think if you're writing it for posterity's sake, say for future grandkids & the like, I would just mention at some point in there that you, like everybody else, have skeletons in your closet, things you've done in life that later you weren't proud of. I wouldn't think you'd want them to think you were a saint, never making a mistake - that's a pretty hard act to follow. How would you feel if you read a book by one of your great-great-great's & found they were perfect in every way? It's hard to live up to the idea of perfection, you know? I don't think you have to go into specifics, just mentioning the fact that they are present, plus the fact that you don't care to share them shows that you found them unacceptable enough to exclude. The rest of what you set out in the book will kind of supply the guidelines of what your standards are/were when you wrote the book, and they can pretty well tell where your line that's not to be crossed is located. Then pray for your future generations!

The life you have lived is what has made you who you are. That includes everything in it, including the skeletons. Do you want the book to proclaim who you really are and how you became this person, or do you want it to show a different face. I would say it all depends upon the reason you are writing the book.

If it sells the book, yes, hahaha!
Seriously, if it will hurt someone, then it will be excluded. But if not, there are diplomatic ways of telling about skeletons in the closet stories.

Yes. At our age, we should be able to accept and admit the fact that not every cloud has a silver lining. A story of your life which started with the silver spoon in your mouth and went through 60 or more years without a blip would be unbelievable, extremely boring and so syrupy it would turn my stomach.
Truth will out. If you're not up to it, don't write your autobiography.

Not necessary to include the skeletons but burying them sometimes brings mysterious questions of whether they should maybe just be cremated, then they can't be resurrected, ever!

I think it would be best to in-clue the skeletons. Tell your own children once there are old enough rather than let them discover for them-self after we are not here and can not explain all the circumstances

I am writing my life's story and without the "skeletons" it would not be the whole truth.
