is it possible that there simply isn't that much good news to report? you indicate that those who ignore good news have an agenda. do those that "wish" for nonexistent good news also have an agenda?
if you want good news about Iraq, just go to fox news. I'm sure you can find lots there.

The simple fact is that the news media is owned by the same people who own the entertainment media, (ABC, NBC, CNBC, MSNBC, CBS, Rubert Murdoch owns FNC and the Fox Network, and Ted Turner owns CNN as well as TBS, etc.) so they will naturally go with what will get ratings, which translates into money, and often that is the bad news, although it is interesting to note that in recent years there has been more demand for good news, to the point where each of the three major network evening news programs all have a weekly "good news" segment.

The big scam of the US media was selling the idea that the Iraq invasion would be a ``cake walk´´ and that Americans would be ``greeted as liberators.´´ Maybe the media is doing a little bit of catching-up on reality.
But, now they are at it again. Trying to sell the idea of an attack on Iran as a good idea. Not hard to do on a people with short memories and who are wobbly on topics such as history and geo-politics.
Here´s the real dope on America´s situation in the Middle East: The US is stuck. It will have its troops killed at a 2 to 4 per day clip. It will get WORSE if it attacks Iran. Happy progress reports from Fox News and Katie Couric or just ignoring the bad news will NOT help.

the market has spoken... people only care about bad news...
the real issue here is... people don't have a lot of time for their news... and most of the time, people view "good things" as "what people should be doing"... fair or not
and since there is such a small attention span... people don't care about what "people should be doing anyway"...
now of course, there are exceptions to the rule... someone going far above and beyond...
but I think most people take the age old adage of "no news is good news" to heart...
for example... when you stop hearing about Iraq in the news, people will assume things are going well there...
and to start talking about "how great things are" about anything, it often seems like you're just a "propaganda mouthpiece" for whatever it is you're talking about...
for example... I bet you laugh if people start talking about the "good things that the Democratic congress has done"... and you just think that it's all bias silliness... and even if you don't, many do
that's pretty much in a nutshell why "good news" doesn't work well...

Stop watching NBC news, or any other leftist newscast. They are all meant to be depressing. You'll come to think we are all just one more SUV exhaust blast away from having the oceans inundate us with flood waters from totally melted ice caps.
It's not just the leftist media. It's the collusion between them and their willing, Democrat accomplices in Congress.
The left-controlled news media filters the world's events to suppress any news that does not promote their anti-American, anti-capitalist, pro-Socialist ideology. Stories about successful, happy people accomplishing good things without a government program or handout must not be told. Stories about how much better off the Iraq people are today must not be told. Stories about miserable people and miserable events are told, trying to make all readers feel guilty for the misery, and that if they would just change the country into a Soviet-style society, all misery and problems will disappear.
The left media are in a propaganda war, not desiring to tell a complete, truthful picture. They will frequently lie about events, and when they screw up, defined as their lies being found out, they will not even recant their lies, as in the manufactured story about Rush Limbaugh and the "phony soldiers" comment. The left manufactured a story and spoon-fed it to their willing lapdogs in Congress who ran with it, grandstanding to placate their moveon.org handlers.

The news only reports what it wants. Unfortunately, most news outlets are very biased to the left, which is anti-war. That’s why you only hear the bad.
It’s sad but the press has virtually no credibility at all. As a whole, it has abused it’s freedoms by not practicing self restraint. It’s gotten to a point where newspapers are about good for the funnies, the movie times, and the bottoms of bird cages.

The news has indeed failed us and will flow with the tide. There is no indication that the news is liberal biased at this point. Hard to figure what rules in the news media other than sensationalism!

No, we do not get an accurate picture of events when we only get what the elite media wants us to see. That is why I do not watch any elite media news or read their newspapers.

i could say bypass with Fox information, their reporting is precise and that they could be seen to have a top leaning bias with the aid of fact of a few of their commentators, no longer with the aid of fact of their information. circumvent the shows the place the host himself claims to be a conservative and you possibly won't see the prejudice.

You might want to consider turning off the TV and looking around your own neighborhood. There must be something good going on.

You're right,we should focus on how the military has begun to manipulate casualty numbers in order to drum up support for the war effort, just like they did in Vietnam. That is fantastic and outrageous,to say the least.
Thanks for bringing the fact that the media ignore issues like this to light.
