To all of you talented wordcarfters out there; a helping hand... I am trying/beginning to put together a poetry collection. I have plenty inspiration, no problem there, my weakest point is discipline/method; I am very new to doing this seriously. I will appreciate any tips of what helps you and how do you set out for yourself, a sort of "writing schedule" .
With undying gratitude.... :)

Yes, I call it my "office hours" Most successful hours have them. Hemingway used to have this little office in he back of his house in Key West. He had his manservant lock him in for a specific length of time each day. Personally I am a night person. I nap a lot during the day and write between 1 and 5 am. I can write at other times because I have to when I am ghostwriting for someone, but when I am writing for me, I am a literary vampire. Start short. A very brief session. 15 or 20 minutes. Same place, same conditions. Gradually work up. It may also help you to do an outline. Say you write a list of the poems you intend to write and cross them off as they are done.

The trick is to build up your discipline until it becomes routine to you. Good luck. Pax - C

I'm supposed to be doing my creative writing right now so I'm not setting a good example.
If you can join a poetry / creative writing class or group it gives some discipline because you have a target and a deadline.
Do pick the time you feel you are most inspired to do some writing each day (some people thinker clearer at night than morning). Set yourself realistic targets for each day and remember your aim.
Best of luck and hope you make it happen!

Read as much good poetry as you can, especially modern verse. It helps some writers to schedule a time in which to write.
I usually write when I get an idea that must be put on paper and explored. If I can't develop it at that moment, I'll make a note
and refer to it later. If you're serious about your writing, you must write everyday. If no new ideas come your way, then rewrite your
old material. Improvement is always possible. Ask someoone you trust to read your work and make comments, another writer
or a join a writer's group.

I have several books published and found out in the process that my best time to write is in the morning, not the evening. Now I have a day job and I am still blowing the evenings away so..... I get up 90 minutes early in the morning and I rush through getting ready so I can spend a golden hour writing. I actually get a lot done in that hour because I know I only have that blasted hour. Oh, and I set the timer so I will get to work.

Try Julia Cameron's The Artist's Way books.

Morning Pages are a great spur for creative flow.

Time of day is important. Some people are at their best in the morning and some late at night. Pick the time and make the time is my advice.
