I rent a small 2 bedroom house. The bathroom doesn't have a vent system and is spotted really bad of mold. Is there a law that will allow me to withhold my rent if nothing is done? I've made 2 written and 1 verbal request of my landlord! Thanks for your time.

I rent a small 2 bedroom house. The bathroom doesn't have a vent system and the ceiling is spotted really bad of mold. I've cleaned it several times and it returns within weeks. Is there a law that will allow me to withhold my rent if nothing is done? I've made 2 written and 1 verbal request of my landlord! Thanks for your time.

The laws vary between states. However, sounds like you just need to clean the bathroom really well.

You can not simply with hold rent unless specific requirements are met. These again will vary state to state.

Not all molds are toxic. Clean the bathroom really well - if health related issues develop talk to the landlorf about having the mold tested.

Look online for mold cleaning tips - most will suggest a bleach/ water solution.

You cannot withhold rent for any reason.

Scrub I mean scrub your bathroom completely. Check caulking and sea lent to ensure everything is intact.

Call the tenants rights board as well as the health department if the problem persists. However, be aware that if toxic mold is found, the premises will be condemned.
