When I was 16 my now husband was 22 years old when we started dating. It was a good balance because I didn't have to deal with an young man just learning about his emotions. He also has respect for women and treated me with care and honesty not just somebody to have sex with. I think If i would have got with a bloke my own age it just wouldn't have worked. I think that it makes a great balance in the relationship with a six year age gap. You can learn a lot from each other.

I say if you like him go for it, that's what matters and it sounds like he treats you really well. I don't think the age gap is a problem, but it's important to realise that it does matter. I went out with a 21 year old when i was 16 and looking back i've changed and grown up so much since then, mostof our arguements wouldn't happen now. So long as you both understand our differences and the problems that they may cause i think it should be fine though, but you do gain an awful lot of life experience between 16 and 22 which helps you deal with things more efficiently and maturely, so be aware.

Why UK only? Also is the male the 22 year old or the female? Makes a difference.

What type of person is the 22 year old if they want to date some one who is 16 years old.
It is seriously wrong, there is no way that the 16 year old has the maturity to handle a relationship with the 22 year old.

Definitely not right. 16 and 22? 16 and 19 is the biggest gap I think it should be. 22 is to mature an age to be dating a 16 year old. It tells you a lot about the 22 year old.

It depends on how mature you are, or if you really like each other, age shouldn't matter. My parents are 18 years apart in age, and my mom got married when she was 21 so that means my dad was 39. They've been together for a long time too.

dont think its wrong if they are mature about it,my wifes mam and dad got to know each other when she was 15 and he was 38,working in the same place started of as friends when she was sixteen told her parents they met liked him and they married had 7 kids,47 years together til his death in feb,so i say give it a chance, dont put to much pressure on each other, and just enjoy your time together.
