Is it true that if anyone calls 911 from their cell phone, can the dispatcher try to track you down if there is a GPS system installed? Will the personal information (the # will show up on the computer) will show up on the the dispatcher's computer? If you call multi-x-times, will they track where you are currently at? How does the main system work if you dial 911 more than 2-x-times? How does this process work? If you know how this works, please tell me with the straight answer. Thank You!

It's the phone companies who would track you, by using the distance of your phone to their masts to work out where you are (triangulation);

The phone company can pinpoint the position of any cell(mobile) phone to within a very few feet - they do this by triangulating the signal from 2 or more cell transmitters - it does not need to have any GPS system installed. Unless you have specifically set your cell phone to withold your number then it will show up on the receiving computer.

Takes a little time to do but here in the UK at the request of the police this has been done a number of times. That evidence has then been accepted in court and has led to the conviction of a number of felons.

I don't know the law in the USA - but here in the UK the police can request that information from a phone company to assist them in any investigation into a possible breach of the law.

If you have repeatedly called 911 without just cause then I hope the law is the same in the US and that the police trace you and bring you to justice.

Do you realise that while you are phoning emergency numbers without cause someone else who really needs help may not be able to get through and you may well have contributed to somebodies death

Why would you want to dial 911 if it weren't an emergency?
