I've seen lots of people do that, but I never have. Do you think it's wrong to make them eat when they're not hungry or do you think kids would not eat properly if you didn't make them?

I've never done it and i never will. My aunt and my Grandma used to do that to me all the time when i was younger. I wasn't much of an eater. the only thing that i liked to eat was Mac n Cheese. But they used to put a big plate of food in front of me and expect me to eat it. they would leave me at the table for hours. I would just sit there and BS the whole time. My cousins would sometimes help me out by putting some food in thier plates or in a napkin or something. but then my mom would eventually come home and yell at them cuz they had me sitting there for so long. she knew that no matter how long how was sitting there, i was NOT going to eat it. So, I would never do that to another kid, cuz i know how that feels.

There have been studies made in the past that show that kids near the ages of 5 or 10 will make the correct choices for a good and balanced diet if given the proper variety of choices.I think that kids should be guided by parents. We are here to TEACH them what is the best and most correct things to do in life in all areas. If it is not a "life changing"problem ,,it does not require a stressful solution involving force.

My daughter (10) chooses to sit at the table with a napkin in her lap. We have done it that way since day one so she just automatically does it everywhere. I would never make her eat if she wasn't hungry but if she wanted a snack later it wouldn't be junk food. I would prefer a leftover plate from dinner or a small snack.

I'm not a parent yet, but I don't think I will force my children to eat. The habit of eating everything on the plate can lead to obesity and food issues later in life. I think a good way to get children to eat healthy is to expose them to many different healthy foods, and make sure they have healthy foods available when they want food (as opposed to having a lot of unhealthy foods around).

Letting them eat whenever they want builds poor eating habits. I don't make my kids eat EVERYTHING, but I make them eat moderate portions because they always complain later about being hungry (before bed) otherwise. I also don't let them dictate when they are done. If they start seeming full, I make them eat just a little bit more then tell them they are done, so I can stay in control. Otherwise they will stop eatting whenever they want just because they lose interest or have something better waiting for them in the other room.

No, I figure he'll eat if he's hungry. I make him sit and wait until the rest of the family is done, but more for manners than nourishment. I provide a balanced meal and give him time to eat what he wants.

We have no rules on where we eat in our home, as long as
we eat together, some times we eat outside if we are doing
BBQ or inside watching TV, and I don't force my son to eat
everything on the plate but I do tell him not to waist food, to
put on the plate what he knows he's going to eat.

i use to but my step son is 16 so he will eat everything plus more if i let him. when he was younger i would just put a little bit of things he may not like. he had to try it and if he did not like it i would not make him eat it. he started liking a lot of veggies because he had to at lest try everything.
