for dry pickup do not put a trash bag in side the vacuum, there is a paper type filter that attaches inside the canister, another words take the top off of the shop vac flip upside down and you should be looking at a corrugated paper type filter with a screw type cap holding it in place. Now if you are sucking up liquids remove the paper type filter and replace it with a foam filter it should be black that does not need to be screwed on it just slips over the round tube that you took the paper filter off of

I have one. No bag is needed. just take the top off and dump the cannister if it is full.A TIP: If you are going to get wet stuff up,empty the cannister first or you will regret it. the wet feature worked great for unplugging drains. I wouldnt use it to bail out my boat or the basement. It will get water out of carpet and furniture. It works excellent for cleaning out stopped up drain pans or cleaning furnaces and removing lint from dryers.

Not generally, but you may want to check the instructions. I believe in some you are supposed to remove the filter for vacuuming up liquids, but again check the instructions.

I don't. I just let the dirt collect in the canister and dump it out.
Would be difficult anyway since the hose intake is usually on the side of the canister.
