As a long time Yankee fan. I say Joe Torre has earned the right to decide his own future. The Yankees owe him that at the very least. If he wants to come back they should let him. Who is going to do a better job than him. But I have a bad feeling if King George lets him go. The Yankees may be headed into another dark and down period. Much like the late 80's and early 90's. Good luck to the Sox against the tribe. They are a young tough team.

I am a yankees and always have been from back to 1983 when I was 5 yrs, but honestly Torre has done wonders for this orginizations because the yankees sure werent a world series contending team before '96. He has taken the Yankees to 4 world series and to the playoffs every year during his time with the Yankees. Yes, we havent been to the World Series in a while and people laugh in our faces, but honestly making it to the World Series over and over shows that there is the potential to at it again. Unfortunately, the bats of the Yankees were silent against the Indians except for in game 3, but the past playoff appearances that hasnt taken us to the world series.......well, the bats of the Yankees havent really produced. For some reason, after the Red Sox beat the Yankees in game 7 of the ACLS, the yankees seem to have lost their postseason fire. But Torre has done more than most managers with the Yankees in the past 20 years has, but George S. is an owner who expects nothing less than perfection no matter if he pays you $250 million or a $1. While people put a price tag on Torre's perfomance especially George S., I think Torre had fun which baseball should be and he treated his players with respect. I dont think the owner expected the yankees players to be so supportive of Torre. I think George put his foot in his mouth on this one because if he lets Torre go and brings in someone else and they do not perform as expect then there will be a lot of angry Yankee fans. I love the team, its managers, and players, but the owner has no heart when it comes to his team.

I'm obviously not a Yankees fan, in fact very far from it, but I don't think Torre should be let go, he might take people with him, depending on the budget of the next team he goes to, if he doesn't retire. He was in what 2nd to last place and almost won the AL East, and did get them into the playoffs. That's why I can't stand Steinbrenner, and he is why people hate the Yankees, he has a kid attitude that if they don't win it every year than someone should be fired. I think he will be in for a rude awakening that no manager is perfect, but that Torre is his best shot at having a well managed team.

Joe Torre doesn't deserve to be treated this way, no, but look at Bernie Williams. Steinbrenner is like that. Torre isn't all that as a manager, though. Before managing the Yankees he had a losing record. Let's face it, with a team that resembles an all-star team, he should make it to the post season often. It is Steinbrenner's deep mis-understanding of baseball essentials, however, that gets them beat up in the post season. No pitching, no win. It's that easy.
I'm all for Joe Torre not getting fired, but you guys have a much better manager in Francona. Don't get carried away by Torre's record with the Yankees.

NOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! Of course Torre should stay!!! How do you fire a guy who has brought your team to the playoffs EVERY YEAR and won it all 4 times??? He knows the team too well to be let go just because they haven't won it all in 7 years. teams have still NEVER won it!!!! and look at the streaks: 86 Years for boston, 99 yrs fo the cubs, and quite frankly, 7 YEARS IS NOTHING. Some managers have been around for more then 12 years and don't have a single ring!!! Torre staying also affects wether or not Posada and Rivera stay. It also has some impact on A-Rod staying. I mean really, what't today's Yankees with no Posada, Rivera, Torre, or Rodriguez??? No offence to him, but I think Steinbrenner would be stupid to let Torre go.

I'll tell you off the bat, I hate the Yankees with a passion. However, this whole mess this year and not winning a world title in the last seven years cant be blamed on joe Torre.
He is a hell of a manager. Its not him thats out there on the mound or in the batters box. Its the players and high priced talent around him. The yankees should seriously consider looking at the future and give torre talen to work with. these guys are getting old. what they need is youth and guys that will grow with eachother as one.

Cashman NEEDS & SHOULD be fired Joe Torre is one of the few managers i respect...If he was to manage another team..he would be winning more ..because steibrenner tells the manager what to do..maybe he should fire himself....as for Torre if and when steibrenner fires him ..a team that is looking should hire him and let him run the team..i dont ehink steinbrenner knows what he is thinking...even in the 70s & 80s he had one of the better managers and he kept firing him because he wouldn't do what he was told to do..RIP Billy Martin

Get rid of A Rod, Damon, Abreau and the entire bull pen except for Mariano and Chamberlain, get rid of all the starting pitchers except for Petetit. By getting rid of them you free up over 100 million and spend that money on young quality pitching and good defensive players, and forget about the high salary postion players hitting over .300. Give me a team with great pitching (starting and relief) great defense and a batting average between .275-.300 and we will have a team unbeatable.
***********************************************************
It is apparent from your answer you either have not followed the Yankees or else no NOTHING about baseball. Damon was the only Yankee who produced at all in the post season for one thing and as far as dumping all the Yankee pitchers except Rivera, Chamberlain and Petit, where do you suggst we go to by more pitching with all the money you have just saved us?
The Yankees lost this year and last for one reason, They forgot how to hit. They went from the best hitting team in baseball to stinking up the joint. If I didn't know better I'd say theyn were masquerading as the old Red Sox.

Not a Yankee fan, but I think it would be a mistake to not bring Torre back.
By the way, Torre's not getting fired exactly. His contract is up and Steinbrenner said he didn't think they'd bring him back in 2008 if the Yankees lost this series.
I actually won't be surprised if Torre is still their manager next year. Steinbrenner said he didn't think they'd bring him back, but he never stated definitively that they wouldn't.
