Well, I would also like to know the answer to your question and I'll bet you get some more alternative/herbal/homeopathic answers here. I have tried many alternative treatments and haven't found one yet that works. I'll give you a link and if your symptoms aren't too bad, you may benefit from their suggestions:

This doctor on the above link says it's not really the acid that's causing the problem, it's that your stomach acid is getting in the wrong places and it could also be stomach inflammation from food or medicine you are taking.

If alkaline foods weren't enough to help (and I assume that means you've also tried antacids), then it might not be acid reflux... it could be some other problem near the same area.

If it is too much acidity in your stomach, then you could try a Calcium Carbonate pill shortly before the "bad time of day" for you, or you could try Ginger, Chamomile, Licorice (preferably DGL), Slippery Elm Bark, and/or Horehound leaf. The combination of those can help to balance out the pH in your stomach.
Aside from that, of course, just changing your diet to remove most acidic foods.... but that's more of a long term preventative, not a recovery thing.

However, if none of that helps, I would definitely suggest talking to a good doctor to make sure it's not some other problem. Good luck!

Try using a GOOD Acidophillus compound 3 times daily as well as a digestive enzyme from your local health food store. Papaya and pineapple enzymes in a capsule should help with digestion. Also the diet, exercise and the belly sticking out a little is proportional to the increased risk of reflux.
During meals drink water only and just a little to wash the food down. In between meals drink lots of water. Do not sit down after a meal stay on you feet and walk around for at least thirty minutes.
Lastly if you make a serious effort you should be able to control it and remember take the enzymes with each meal as if they were prescribed.

My wife has helped some people by suggesting they try apple cider vinegar in a little water. You might not have too much acid, it might be not enough if you get relief from the apple cider vinegar. You need to first determine whether you have too much acid or not enough. Taking vinegar will increase acid, calcium will decrease acid. Try to eat the same things when you test. One person my wife worked with was taking a lot of calcium pills and it was diluting her stomach acid and she thought she had too much stomach acid due to the symptoms. It was the opposite. If I remember, the symptoms of both conditions are very similar.

I like LS158's answer - acid reflux is *totally* diet related. If you can treat the source of the problem, you won't have to worry about trying to treat it with anything else. It will take care of itself. Eating a lot of meat, which is high in sulfur, doesn't help. Be aware that chugging Tums and the like will make the problem worse as it dilutes your stomach acid! Also, I believe things like spinach and broccoli stems are especially high in calcium. If you are out of balance with your diet you may be causing yourself pain.

Gabrielle's answer just made me think of another thing. My wife will sometimes take digestive enzymes before a heavy meal to help her digest foods that she might otherwise have trouble with. You want to take these before a meal if possible.

Take 8 oz glass fill with 3 table spoons of organic Apple Cider Vinegar with Mother (very important it says with mother on the label), add 4 tablespoons of pure organic aloe vera juice fill the rest of the glass with filtered water (never use reversed osmosis or chlorinated water)

For even better effect top with 1 teaspoon of pure psylium (plantain) husk mix and drink immediately. Chase down with another glass of water. Reflux will be gone in no time at all. To keep it that way stay away from any soda and cola drinks. They make your body acidic hence very prone to many deceases.

Make this mix part of your daily diet once a day. If you happen to drink any type of reversed osmosis water -- STOP it dehydrates your body making your stomach acid much stronger.

Stress can cause reflux or at the very least exacerbate it. It's not just diet.

Chewing gum sometimes helps me, and I've heard it mentioned here before as preventing reflux or easing the symptoms.

Eating yogurt (I have soy yogurt because I'm vegan) is also soothing.

Make sure you stay seated upright for at least 45 minutes after eating. And don't go to bed less than three hours after dinner. Try to elevate your head while sleeping as well.

Good luck!

I agree with the last two answers, I use some of those products, especialy apple cider vinegar, wich I trust 100%.
Beside this you need a liver cleanse. I did it few times, and it work. In adition to that, I take Acidophilus pills before meals, and vinegar after a heavy meals. It works for me..Digestive or laxative teas its very impotant too.

We all need a liver cleanse once a year.

Drugs are for people that will not change their lifestyle. You have to change what your putting into yourself. The food and drink you consuming is causing your reflux.
