The previous answers about the salt are good but the procedures are not correct.
The easiest way is to use
1/2 teaspoon SEA SALT.
The refined salt is too strong.
Find a shallow bowl about the
size of your face. Fill it with
pretty warm clean water.
Preferably not tap water.
Put face into bowl and sniff
up the water until it goes back
down into the throat. Then
blow it out the nose and mouth. Do this until most of
the water is gone. About
3X/day.
Why does it work so well?
The bacteria have set up colonies in your nose, sinuses
and throat. The fastest and easiest way to get rid of them
is by doing the above.
this is called a levage.

Use sea salt, stir 1 Tbls (until dissolved) into 1/2 C of lukewarm water. Hold your head (facing sideways) over the sink, pour the mixture slowly, a small amount at a time, into one nostril and let it run out the other, switch sides, turn your head over to the opposite direction, do it again. Then take a small amount in the palm of your hand and hold your head up straight, with your palm at the opening of your nose, quickly suck the mixture in through your nose and spit it out. Do this a few times and all it again -- twice a day -- it will also help with allergies. In essence, it resets the histamine receptors. Hope it helps you, it's an old folk remedy that works.

Mix a tablespoon of salt in a cup of warm water. Pour some in the palm of your hand and sniff or snort the liquid into your nose. It may burn a little, but it helps clear up sinus infection.

Sniffing salt water is right on; it helps make the crud drain out. Have some chicken noodle soup, too.
Also, don't take antihistamines. They thicken and dry mucus. OTC decongestants, spray or tablet are okay though. Follow the directions.
