Probably not enough memory. Most new laptops have only 512 MG of memory when you buy them and Vista needs at least 1GIG to run half way normal. Best is to have 2 GIG or more for Vista.

For starters you should give more Details! I can not work out if you installed vista on your older laptop! Or if you got a New laptop with Vista on it!
Many things could be wrong but say you have an older Laptop and less then 1Gb memory you better get upgraded ore go back to XP.
I don't run Vista don't like it because I know its very heavy on memory!

I only installed ones IE7 on my XP and my laptop changed from 70 second load-time to 4 minutes to load!

Now say you have a new laptop with Vista on it I presume the person who sold it knows that the memory should be more the 1Gb to run Vista. You may try to start your computer an press F8 and start ones in Save Mode. Then restart again and see if it still takes long to load.

If still the same do it again start up press F8 and this time select use last good configuration. Still not good start your computer normal! Then try to go to an previous restore point. You could have picked up some virus.

Could be a number of things. I would back up all my important data and do a 'factory restore'. This will get rid of any viruses/spyware and will also remove any extra software you may have installed yourself, which may be slowing it down.
If it is still very slow after that then take it back to the shop.
If it fixes the problem.....
1. Make sure you have adequate anti-virus and anti-spyware
2. Don't install so much junk! Just install the most important software that you really can't be without.
Finally adding more RAM might help!

The Dell could help an exterior problematic force so as that may not a difficulty you may get terabyte drives as for area on the Dell you're able to load each and all of the classes you want and delete those you do not have it checked to make certain if the reminiscence is maxed you may positioned 2x512meg of reminiscence this shouldn't value plenty in case you save around

Go on to welcome screen, open up the start-up window, and look through all the programs that are brought up by default Vista setting. Those are one of the reason your Vista act slowly. You may speed your Vista station up by removing some of the items from the start-up window or add more RAM to speed the loading process up.

How long your computer takes to load (a.k.a. boot up) depends on many factors. The primary culprit is usually due to having too many programs starting up when the system starts. Once your computer has finished loading, look at how many little icons you have in the task tray (the area in the bottom-right corner of the screen). You may have to click the arrow button to the left of the little icons to see them all.

The fewer programs you have starting up when your computer boots, the faster it'll boot. Most new computers come pre-loaded with all kinds of programs that you'll probably never use. Uninstall what you don't use.

At this time, Vista is loading up everything it needs to render the desktop. If your settings are maxed out in vista, you may experience longer load times here. The point of a longer load time here is that usually when the screen fades out, the desktop can fade in immediately.

Vista needs a lot of ram ~1.5-2 GB, alot of processing power 3GHz & a superb graphics card. If u don't have any of this then it will surely slowdown. Ask customer care. U can disable many of its graphic effects, which will reduce processor usage. & can increase system speed. Also disable any unwanted pgms running on startup & many services. checkout www.blackviper.com for unneeded services. There r tweaks available to increase speed vista, just google vista tweaks.

I am no expert for sure. You may have viruses, Trojan horses and various other cookies etc. lurking around your hard drive. I suggest you find an expert repair person to examine your particular needs. Many sinister programs are out there trying to subvert your internet use, on top of the normal problems one can have in wading through the internet world quagmire.

normally it's because you don't have enough memory for the amount of programs and downloads you have or you are using dial-up, which oftern runs slow. however, this being a new computer I would call or take back to where you got it and find out whats wrong. i never used vista, so am not familiar with that program. good luck!
