If you want to continue your friendship with this woman, the only thing I could suggest is to invite her to tea and discuss her recent behavior - especially with the expensive gifts to a baby. Ask her if she really values your friendship - or does she feel it's value is only as much as you spend?
That's going to really put a strain on any kind of relationship - so be prepared for her to be upset.
If you have already decided that this woman, while very nice on the outside, is extremely shallow and only values things over friendship - then I suggest you be "busy" when she asks to visit with you - and to always be "at the wrong end of the paycheck" when it comes to spending money on her and her baby.
She'll eventually drop you - but what have you really lost - except maybe a high credit card bill?

I hope you've had a heart-to-heart talk with your friend. Give her some examples of her comments, tell her how it makes you feel.
From now on, I'd suggest you make gifts for her son, don't buy them. Take a good photo of him, put it in a frame. Find other gifts to make.
A link below has many examples. There are other websites with ideas, also. Just type: ideas for gifts to make
in any search engine.

she needs to start treating you nice and if she does not than don't talk to her for awhile as far As gift goes kids breaks things so fast , why should you spend a lot of money on things they will pull apart or break in two sec. a gift is a gift the kids do not know the price of things all the time , the just like to play and have fun it is the parents that have to be taught that money isn't everything and than pass that onto the kids.

You need to let her know that you do not believe you have to buy expensive giflts for her son, her son is only one and will outgrow the gifts in no time. Besides, she can buy the expensive gifts herself if that is what she wants.

If your friendship is based on finances and gifts, I'd say it's time to get a new best friend. Sorry.

Its understandable why you feel that way... but she has stuck by you for 10 years, wouldn't feel right if you broke up your friendship over this. communicate with your friend, tell her
"Its the thought that counts, not the gift."

Tell her you can afford it. If she takes offence, shes not a real friend.
And a real friend wouldnt try and get you to spend alot on her son, if she wants expensive things for her son, she should buy them herself.

It is time to drop her if she wants you to buy expensive gifts that you cannot afford ( or don't wanna buy) then she shouldn't get upset. I mean she is your best friend, she has no right to be upset about this......

Oh, don 't feel bad about that. I am sure, with your 10 years of friendship, you already learned to forgive her. Just pray for her and soon enough she will chance IN GOD'S TIME.
Cheers!!!!! GOD BLESS :)
