I live about one mile from here. http://blogs.chron.com/schoolzone/2007/03/a_new_kind_of_white_flight_1.html

I plan to retire from my current job in 2 years. In preparation for my next career, I substitute teach once every two weeks in Houston's school district. All schools that I have ever subbed at were 75% or more, minority. Any white kid is often the only one in the class.

Most of the white kids attending a Houston public school have a beaten down look about them. Although they may be above the curve in their school, they are subpar if they were attending a school in my area. They are taught that their race is evil. The boys are picked on by minority kids who are bigger and older because they failed a grade or two. The girls are being taught to mimic the self destructive behavior that too many minority girls engage in. Later in life, these kids will feel like outsiders if they find themselves with middle class whites. Ironically, I'm able to get ALL kids to do their work.

Actually, If I were able to teach full time, more kids of all ethnic groups would do better. I am able to get them to work.
The sad part is that When I become full time, these types of schools won't be able to get someone like me.

I'm nowhere near rich enough to live AT that country club. If I had kids, I am at least able to afford to send them to the schools in that area.

I guess the minorities are only going to provide insults (an inability to debate the issue) because they really can't say anything else.

I would not send my white kid to a school where she would in fact be the minority. In fact I do not send her to the school we are in district for, because of that very reason. In all fairness to everyone. I did try to let her attend the predominately minority school for 2 months. In those 2 months I had 4 parent/ teacher meetings where I found that not just the students were failing in most studies, but the teachers I came in contact with would or could not speak proper English. T he kids and the staff were all street like in there English and there formalities. My answer is if I am faced with that situation again my daughter will be home schooled. I will not subject her to that type of dis-learning again. It was a horrible experience I will not repeat, no child should have to be put out of there element like that unless there are being set up for failure. But that's just my life lesson and opinion.

well as a mom i don't think i would have a problem with it. i am white. atleast 75% of the children in my little girl's school are mexican. i live in a small town. my parents did not raise me to be prejudiced although they have and do say a few choice words about one race or another. as long as all the students have the legal right to be in this country and the school district they are attending, i'm fine with it. i do think that there should be no private schools. in my experience, attending a private school seems to give children a sense of superiority. i can see why the white kids would seem downtrodden. i also see your concerns. it seems that more and more lately the crappy behavior is promoted no matter what parents and teachers try to do. i live in tx myself so i see the minority issues everyday. most of the minorities are no longer minorities, and the white man's children are no longer the superior race. all i can say is : life in this country is a sorry thing and keep tryin' to make a difference, not only for the white children but for them all. as a teacher and/or parent you have a duty to these kids to teach them that life is not always what it seems. encourage the kids to treat each other more decently. give them all a kind word and remind them that things could be much worse.
good luck and god be with you.

i won't be able to assert that I accept as true with your reasoning in the back of the justifications for blacks getting disillusioned yet i think of this is achievable. i in my view would not get disillusioned in the event that they chosen to deliver their little ones to an all white college with the aid of fact the lecturers have been greater perfect, it became into in a nicer section, etc, yet whilst they simply had to circumvent being around minorities i could probable be a sprint disillusioned yet i would not care too plenty. this is the youngster's loss for no longer being waiting to adventure racial variety. that's a stable factor to adventure incredibly on the grounds that they might sooner or later artwork with distinct races. i'm fortunate, even with the undeniable fact that, I went to a extreme college that became into chop up down the middle white and minorities so I have been given to adventure dissimilar variety, something i craved after going to an all white center college.
