Two of the teams actually won the game by doing that. I just think its a dirty tactic and shouldnt be allowed. Especially when the refs wont allow you to get a challenge flag out that late, even if the flag was laying on the ground before the ball is snapped.

im sure it will be discussed in the future meetings, and i agree with you when you bring up the challenge flag at the last two minutes or not seeing if the flag was on the ground...i dont think its fair...what if it was game changing? i just think that those timeouts will be ruled as a delay of game or something like that

They were talking about not allowing time outs when a team lines up for a field goal and is ready to snap the ball...for next season though. I just heard something about it but not all the details so I don't know how they will handle it.

I would say if the timeout isn't called in enough time to stop the snap then the play goes on. Last night for example, they blew the whistle like a split second before the snap. If that was the case the play should be allowed. They would have to call it like 2 seconds earlier so that the whistles could be blown well before the snap, not right as it was happening.

It's rare that a call is completely blown, although it does happen from time to time. More often than not, it's someone who does not understand the rule (like a fan, announcer, or talk radio host) who screams about it the loudest. Take for example the infamous "tuck" rule. I know the referee who called that, I know the rule, and I even talked to the NFL VP of Officiating personally and all support that call. Yet, any Raiders fan will swear that it was a bad call and cost them the game. As I recall the game you're talking about, I saw an inelligible number downfield but I thought that it was later determined that he reported eligible (which is allowed under NFL rules) and was in that same formation earlier in the game. I vaguely recall meeting the Umpire from that game who told me that. The closest thing I have ever seen was the Broncos-Chargers game. The referee admitted that he blew the call. If he had called it that correctly or if the rule had been written differently (in some codes, the Chargers could still have recovered) the Chargers would have had the ball and taken a knee to win the game by seven. Still, the Broncos had to score on each of their next two plays and exposed the Chargers' weakness to the TE coming on a slant that bedeviled them for half the season. Of course, if they hadn't allowed Denver to score on them at will in the first half.... However, if it was a perfect world there would be no fumbles, interceptions, dropped passes, missed field goals, blown coverages, bad reads, bad routes, or bad play calls that usually are the underlying factor that leads to the officials getting blamed.

I hear ya! My poor Cleveland Browns fell victim to this malarky two weeks ago at the hands of the Oakland Faders. (yeesh!) The ball was snapped, the kicker put the ball through the uprights with no problem....and suddenly everyone realizes that the Faders had called a time out. :-( He subsequently missed the second one, costing them the game.
On the other hand it didn't work during the Florida/Auburn game, right?
I think it's dirty as well and I love it when it backfires on the sneaky coach that's trying to pull it off. I think that if the ball is snapped, they should not be able to call a time out.

This getting out of hand and all it's doing is delaying the game, the rule should change so only a player on the field can call time out on the last 30 seconds of a game

Honestly, i agree with you, it really is a dirty tactic. I really think there should be a rule about it because it's stupid. Football isn't what it used to be. There's so many sore losers, that they have to cheat and play dirty to win, and i think they need to enforce more rules to make it an equal opportunity game.

This will fix itself when some team calls a timeout and the kicker misses then the kicker makes the next one.

I agree to a certain extent... but it is a gamble.... if they miss they get another try.... but i would have thrown a shoe at the Bills coach if dallas would have missed the second kick lol....
