The most talented team in baseball couldn't make it past the first round again. Don't see how that's the managers fault.

If you're a manager, one of your jobs is to get the best performances out of your players. Torre has failed to do that.

If Steinbrenner fires Torre he's an even bigger ****** than people already think he is. How do you manage the biggest payrole and biggest egos in the game? They are the ones being paid the rediculous amounts of money to perform, and they didn't get the job done. It's not Torre out there on the field underachieving, its A-rod, Jeter, Posada, and the rest of them. The best thing that could ever happen to the Yankees would be to lose Steinbrenner as owner.

Just as Torre got so much credit when they were winning, so he should take the blame when they lose. It's the role of a manager to keep his team motivated, even if it means having to ride a bunch of multimillionaires.

I don't blame Torre for all their failures, but since when did he become St. Joe? He had a losing record before coming to New York, and the only reason he had success with the Yanks was that enormous payroll. If he's no longer able to succeed with the same formula, then it's time to go.

The Yanks are still paying the price for getting arrogant, trading their farm system, and thinking they could bring in any aging star and get great numbers from them. They finally stopped bringing guys like Damon and Mussina and started letting their farm system develop and now guys like Chamberlain and Hughes are helping them out.

I think they're another year or two away from contending for a WS again, barring a couple of offseason signings - always a possibility with this team - but yes, I would agree with you - the shortcomings are not Torre's fault. That Steinbrenner is probably going to fire him is a disgrace.

Once you get to the post season, if you don't win it the players are to blame. You can't blame the manager for his team not hitting or for his pitchers getting shelled. For the 162 game longhaul, the manager plays a more important role to make sure guys get rest and stay healthy, but for the post season, there is no rest. You put your best guys out, and if they don't perform, you shouldn't be blamed. If you make idiotic moves in the post season (like taking out your ace after 85 pitches ehem Zambrano), that is another story. But I can't argue really with any moves Torre made this post season.

Exactly.

Was Torre pitching last night and give up four runs? No. Did he strike out his first two at bats like A Rod? No.

Blame the team not Torre.

The blame should land on Steinbrunner/Cash(waste)man for the excess of money they spend on mediocre to poor pitching. K. Igawa was a dud, R. Clemens has never had a great ERA in NY and he is getting old, Pettite has not been the same sub three ERA guy since his injuries and they have been wreckless with the signing of guys like Pavano and J. Wright. Steinbrunner and Cash should be fired. Go get Mark Cuban, Walt Jockety and Tommy Lasorda for a complete and entertaining overhaul.

It doesn't matter who manages that team, they have enough individual talent to win 90 games a year - which they do. But come playoff time when the going gets tough - they have no onfield leadership. Jeter and A-Rod fold, Giambi is a $19 million waste. Yankees should try to win games on some small ball instead of the 3 run homer. But can you imagine Jeter, ARod, Posada, et all trying to bunt????? 3rd place next year.

TALENT wins Championships ... NOT MONEY!! There is NO TALENT on the Yankees pitching staff! And, they have only EGO driving the hitting corps. Future starS = Melky, Robinson, Joba, Phil.

IF I was the 'chief surgeon' my first CUT would be Wang ... if you have a useless Wang, CUT it off! 2nd Cut would be Alex ... he spells team .. ME. Retirees that don't make me sad include: Clemens and Rivera.

My biggest PLEA would be with Posada ... PLEASE STAY, and agree to a three year contract stipulating (1) we will get a serious backup catcher for you to groom and mold, (2) each of the next three years you will play less, and less: ie. 2008 = 100 games, 2009 = 90 games, 2010 = 75 games.

THEN, I would go after 3B Braun. 1B Howard, OF Jones. The following Ps would be added to the team: Harang, Webb, Hamels.

WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS 2009!! Torre STILL managing!

It isn't Torre's ego out on the field or in the media. Its the over-paid losers who are to blame. A big paycheck doesn't mean you can play ball any better. SO happy to see those jerks go down. I'm sick of hearing about them.
