It's the use of the scientific method of unbiased collection or observation of data, forming an explanation and testing the proposition to see it works and consistently proves the conclusion. Often we think of this as used only to study things that can be used like nuclear power or machines. Actually Sociology studies people and psychology thoughts. It's a method of investigation of phenomena. They are even studying psychic phenomena and spirituality now like in physics and theoretical science. We kinda have to study everything, almost, as part of going much further as it was wrong to not consider the scientist, their thinking, thinking in general and the mind as if they weren't factors. applying of scientific findings to build communication or medical equipment or in medicine. Of course that includes any product or procedure based on the science or even an invention. Linking them makes you think of products made from the physical sciences. It's better to use that objective method for studying everything. It's used in philosophy, which is consider the father of science. The division are somewhat artificial and in reality everything relates and how can you leave out anything in studying anything else. Nothing exists in a vacuum. The best scientists are often the ones who are the most spiritual and intuitive. I see the lower levels of science as more rigid, where the average person will probably work so they don't need a better definition and arguing keeps them out of trouble so they won't notice their getting ripped off.
